I think I'm buying a PS4 on Monday...

Getting a paycheck and I'll have around 500 to spare. Really been wanting to get into some gaming lately and this one strikes my fancy.
Not really sure what I want as far as games. I really like these stat climbing MMOs that are popping up but I've been hearing sour things about Destiny.
Anyone have advice for me? Games? Courses of action for when I get this?

I have some friends who are hooked on Destiny. I'm more of a FPS fan so I alternate between Battlefield 4 and Call of Duty.
If your TV isn't that good for fast pace gaming then hook it up to a computer monitor instead otherwise the game will lag.
Setting up Netflix on your PS4 is also a good idea. If you sign up for a VPN then you can change the region you're in and you have access to lots of different content. Here's a Netflix search engine which helps you find which countries are playing the shows you like: https://netflixaroundtheworld.com/
A cheap and easy VPN to use is Unblock US which will cost you about $5 per month: http://www.unblock-us.com/

Despite the shit I hear about Destiny a ton of people still play it, it just lacks a story and some of the shit gets repetitive but it's got the best mechanics for an FPS I think. It's too "grindy" for me but the multiplayer's real fun.
Also get GTA V, and Dying Light when it comes out.

Nice, I had no idea about this VPN. I'll be hooking it up to my computer monitor as well. It's a nice flat screen with some width.

If you like smooth FPS mechanics coupled with an addictive sense of weapon progression then Destiny is a good fit IMO.
If you're looking for an amazing story with more typical RPG progress (skills, stats, classes treeing out), Dragon Age Inquisition is a good fit IMO.
Infamous: Second Son is free for playstation plus this week and I really like all the infamous games as good examples of action-adventure mechanics done right. Shadow of Mordor is pretty sweet that way too
I have quite the library going just from PS+ games. I haven't played a bad one yet but I keep going back to Destiny at the end of the day. There are tasks that come out daily and weekly and that time sensitive nature gets me logged in to complete them.
I love the ps4

After doing a little research I think I'm picking up Dragon Age as my first game. It looks fucking amazing. Eventually I'll get a stat progressing multiplayer game, but DA looks too good to pass up.

Also, extremely excited for Final Fantasy XV. I haven't played one since X and those games = top notch. And I just saw that a Mortal Kombat X is releasing. The PS4 looks prime right now.

I didn't. My monitor accepts HDMI as well as DVI and VGA and I can also choose to output sound via the built in speakers. I plug the PS4's HDMI cable into my monitor and I'm all good to go.
My old monitor didn't have a HDMI connection so I had a HDMI to DVI adaptor when I used a PS3 on it.
Having a good screen for gaming makes a huge difference. I plugged it into a big screen TV whose specs I was unsure of and it was such a horrible experience. It was laggy and I went from being awesome to terribly shit all because of the TV.
If I want to take my PS4 to a mate's place for a PS4 lan then it's also easy to put my monitor in the car too.

Bought myself a PS4 less than a month ago and I love it. Nice choice!
GTA 5 is a great game. The new first person mode is really clean and immersive. The world of GTA is so raw and random. The funniest shit can happen out of no where. Like, other online plays flying jets over head and just randomly crashing into the ground next to you while you're already battling it out with some dude, creating something out of a movie.
I can get on that game and just drive/fly and have a blast. And the fact that you can explore a small world with so much detail is awesome. Online gets nuts, now. 30 people to a server, just driving around causing chaos. When things start getting crazy, I like to incorporate some realism and try and play the game tactically. Super fun.

I can totally vouch for everything you just said... except for the first person view... I was totally stoked that they were gonna incorporate it on new gen, but once i actually tried it out.. I dunno, it doesn't work all that well IMO.. especially while trying to fire/move in cover.. I do like it in the aircrafts though, and sorta with the ground vehicles.. depends on what I'm doing/driving.
in single player I use it a lot more... it does definitely add immersion... online I seem to get killed constantly while in first person

one new thing about PS4 is the game broadcast thing. i watched people play destiny in real time and it seemed boring and repetitive.
