knottng in Transkei jars?
    #20993477 - 12/18/14 10:33 AM (9 years, 3 months ago)

I currently have 2 pint jars (noced up via A2G with some Transkei myc) looking like this:

Is this already knotting? Because it looks different from the jars I normally have and more like knotting like in my monotubs? It also seems a bit fluffy. Should I be concered, that it is contaminated and now prepare for pinning?

It's not knotting,

It's fighting bacteria. That jar is contamed.

I opened one jar of them a bit and gave it a smell. Smells like it should, nor sour of similar?

You can spawn bacteria jars just fine.

I did:

Then I just wasted a cake not too long ago :undecided:
Wait, no... It actually had some blackish / grey mold on it while colonizing...

Do you mean you can still spawn / fruit it if you do not see any contams and just some metabolites show and it still smells fine?

Yes.

Bacteria has a tendency to be a gateway for other contams though so you'll have to watch that tub but bacteria spawn will push out a flush or two before going sour. Not as good as clean spawn but if it's all you have it's not a waste.

Unfortunatly I onky have 2 pint jars, so not enough for a monotub. And I think g2g isn't a choice with bacteria jars... :frown:

I'd just spawn it if you have enough.

I spawn 1 qt to 27 qt mini monos. Then take a clone and start over.

2 pints was def enough to spawn to something. in the future u can use anything plastic really... ice cream buckets, coffee containers, plastic pickle jars lol The big one was only a pint of spawn and the other was a half pint...

This was done with only a quarter pint of spawn lol

:whathesaid:

Creativity is key. Anything that will fit your qts and 3-4" of substrate and take some holes will work. Or throw them each into their own individual trays (You can even break up your spawn into 2-5 trays with Coir/Verm) and fruit in an SGFC.

EDIT:

If you're doing a tray you only need 1-3" of Spawn/Sub total btw. 3-4 is for monos but most pans don't reach that high. Also, myc eats aluminum so get some other material.
