Jars don't smell like mycelium

First post here. Gotten a lot of help from this site. But I have a situation that I can't find anything about. My jars (grain) are fully white, but they don't have any distinctive odor to them. They usually smell like shrooms, but now I can hardly smell anything but a slight grainy smell. These jars are from a grain-to-grain transfer, and there were bodies growing in the originals already. Is the mycelium less potent for some reason?

I have a couple jars that I shook two days ago, and they still have the same slightly sweet grainy smell. I'm barely able to smell it. The white jars are fuzzy on top.

If you shake them and they fully recover they should be good to go...
Take a pic and upload it here, then you can have some extra eyes on it.

Sweet smells are not good. You might have a bacteria.
But shake them and see if they recover, like already stated.

actually I have been finding small spots on the grain that begins to turn green. I cant post pics right now. But I did shake them and they smell good afterward, and recover, but then go back to smelling slightly sweet. I suppose a week of being fully recovered is sufficient confirmation that theyre good?

recovering means that the mycelium forms back together after being broken apart. It will take a couple days to see if it recovers.

If you could post pics that would be great.
Is there any slime on the inside of the jar after you move the grains around?
Does the green look like the grain is rotting?

My camera is junk. But basically the grain begins to rot - always starts visibly on the outside, rather than in the middle of the jar - and spreads. Happens randomly, occasionally after the entire jar has been covered in mycelium.

sounds like poor sterile technique is the culprit, including poor technique of making a syringe/print, much less likely is improper sterilization

Sounds more like Bacillus sp. Also known as sour rot or wet rot.
It happens when you have too much moisture in your spawn jars.
Symptoms are sweet smells, a browning in the grain that looks like it's rotting and eventually turns black and mushy and slime coming off the grains
In the early symptoms you don't notice a big visible difference, visible signs come after the smells.

I'm completely aware of the difference between bacteria & mold...

Either way there are no pics & I really don't give a shit who's right or wrong.
Just trying to offer insight to the OP.

below are a couple jars with the green spots
below is a jar I shook yesterday. After shake it smelt good through the holes in the lid. Today it's back to the slightly sweet grainy smell, which is what they smell like after turning white. Like the others I shook a few days ago, these are recovering quickly.
below are two fully white jars. They have the slightly sweet grainy scent.

Dont shake anymore til 100%
below are two fully white jars. They have the slightly sweet grainy scent. These look good, keep them safe for further G2G or spawn running
Do you have Tyvek or Polyfil in your holes? How big are the holes? If there is nothing over those holes, you are ASKING for contam, When i do a spore innoc to grain I dont touch em til 30% colon. then I shake, when I do g2g I dont shake at all after the first time because I work to get spawn at all corners of the jar. Do you have pics of the lids without foil over them?

No, but theyre just as you think, 3 holes punctured with nail, covered with foil only . Is the tyvek or polyfil the tape that I see in the PF Tek pics? Or do I put a sheet of it inbetween the lid and band/seal?Quote:

pf-tek is not for grain jars. pf-tek has dry verm filter, grain jars has polyfill or sfd filters. alu foil is not a filter.
there's a few lid making threads in my sig

If you don't have a drill, you can punch a number of nail holes tight together and puncture with needle nose pliers, I always bend up the metal on the bottom and cover it with latex (except for the center where airflow is needed) all around the stuff to keep little bits from sticking up in there when I shake my jars, also helps keep moisture off the tyvek, if that's what you use, I cut quarter size circles, stack them 3 high over the hole, I put some silicon around the hole, lay the first one, put a little silicon on the tyvek (around the hole u punctured not over it) then place the next one and next one the same then silicon around the edges good. wallah! Mine have lasted numerous PC'ing and runs (These ones are made with a self healing port for injections of MS and LC)
