Well, this week I finally made some time to get out of the house and scour the Napa hills in search of edibles. All this rain is looking pretty good, and the mushrooms are just starting to come out. Here are some photos from today I thought some of you might enjoy -
Cantharellus californicus
Check out this crazy one!
Leratiomyces percevalii
Some Russula -
Russula cremoricolor
And Russula cerolens
Lacrymaria lacrymabunda
Hebeloma crustuliniforme
What I'm assuming is a cute little Clitocybe sp. in moss.
Coprinus comatus
Aureoboletus flaviporus
Xerocomellus truncatus
Xerocomellus chrysenteron
Lyophyllum sp.
I posted most of these in the "Bay Area Actives" thread, but wanted to include some of the better ones here too -
Psilocybe allenii
Omphalotus olivascens
Amanita calyptroderma
Lactarius alnicola
Lactarius xanthogalactus
And last but not least, one of my favorite mushrooms to look at -
Marasmius plicatulus
Thanks for looking - more to come in the upcoming weeks! I will just keep updating this thread here.

Thanks guys! Glad you enjoy the photos, but your too kind. I need a better camera to make these photos really pop~ Perhaps I will get one this year. I finally got a good oil immersion microscope, camera is next on the list.
From this morning, found while grocery shopping (well, outside in the landscaping).
Morchella rufobrunnea (Or at least what it passes for in California)

I just finished finals last week and needed a day out. I spent all day hiking all around the Napa hills and it was fantastic! I apologize in advance... there are a lot of photos here. I didn't even photograph half of the species I found. But I still ended up with a ton of photos. I know some of you enjoy them, so here they come!
Some of our local Amanita species are starting to show up.
Amanita calyptroderma
Amanita "gemmata"
Amanita phalloides
As are some of our Agaricus as well.
Agaricus xanthodermus
Agaricus hodensis
The usual oak Boletes were out and about too - Although many of them were so water logged they would be inedible in their current condition.
Xerocomellus dryophilus
Xerocomus subtomentosus
The cap texture of these guys really looks (and feels) like suede!
This one grew an extra leg - I think it was trying to run away from me...
Some neat Hygrocybe bringing color to my day -
The "candy-caps" were up too - I have a nice batch drying in my kitchen right now in the dehydrator and my house smells wonderful (like IHOP my wife says...)
I found some awesome Ganoderma species too.
Ramaria stricta
Found a patch of active Gymnopilus out there as well, you can see a bit of oxidation on the caps if you look closely.
Gymnopilus luteofolius
Tricholoma dryophilum
Leucopaxillus gentianeus
And of course Chanterelle - its become tradition at my house to have xmas morning chanterelle quiche. All the relatives expect it. Last year I let them down (no rain). This year will be a different story.
Cantharellus californicus
Also lots of other less noticed species out there too. Its a fungal explosion with all this rain we have been getting!
Entoloma lividoalbum
Pluteus cervinus
Cuphophyllus russocoriaceus
Tubaria furfuracea
Bolbitius titubans
I even found several spots with young Hericium species! I'm going to return in a few weeks and pick them - for now they are growing. Mo' bigger means mo' dinner.
Hericium coralloides
Hericium erinaceus
Trametes versicolor "Turkey Tail"
Stereum hirsutum
A couple Gymnopus species
And a giant cluster of large Armillaria! This thing was huge.
It was quite a day. It's almost too wet out there - I'm loving this winter so far. And our edible season is really just starting over here.
