Truffle questions
    #20759419 - 10/27/14 01:09 PM (9 years, 5 months ago)

Hey all Ive never so much as seen a truffle, last time I was in Holland was 2007 and they weren't so popular.

Do they do OK on rye or is grass seed the way to go?

What's a typical yeild for a quart jar?

Do they do as well in bags as jars?

The process is the same as making spawm? Knock up jars with Agar and leave for a couple months? Can they be in the dark like put away somewhere?

I like the aesthetics of mushrooms truffles sound kinda boring but easy enough, I might do a few rounds of them for the novelty

Thx!

Rye or oats will have the best yield for sclerotia. Someone did an isolate test with various substrates I might be able to find it later as I am on my phone. RGS was one of the worst.

Well thats good for me because rye is my grain of choice.
I just ordered a mexicana spore print, Im excited, new species!

I think Im definitly going to fruit some as well while Im waiting for the stones.
I really dont know why I haven't grown these before honestly.

Ill have to buy some bags cause I dont wanna tie up my jars.

Also what's the contam rate on these? When my tubs go bad from contam spawm its always hidden contams that dont show up u ntill fruiting.

If one of these jars harbors hidden contams is it less likely to go bad because it isnt introduced to fruiting conditions?

I think contams always get worse when introduced to fruiting conditions. The contam rate is the same as anything else. Just get a clean culture going on agar and noc them up with those.

Anywhere from about 100 to 150 fresh grams is what Violet says. If you're serious about make some isolates. There's no way to know exactly with MS. Not to mention you can leave them in the jars anywhere from 2 to 9 months. The sunstone and violet teks will tell you everything you need to know.

In a few months Ill have a pillow sack full of truffles easy peasy haha

Something about it seems too easy but if you make clean spawn there's alot less places to make errors

I like it!  I mean, they dry out ok right?

They take a lot longer than cubes to dry since they're so dense.
