how can you have bad GE in a jar with 4 holes? I dont assume, I can tell thats bacteria because of the way it looks.

Wait wait wait.. hold the phone. are you using coffee filters as a filter media? do you still have a verm barrier?

I still have a dry verm layer that's just for the steaming processes and foil over it... The jar didn't have 4 nail holes it had a self healing nock point and a lil filter that got clogged with verm and didn't allow any gas exchange

the brf method with 4 holes is the simplest.

I'm not calling you a liar but I don't think so an I really hope not!! Read my very first post PussyFart made the comment that I had bacterial growth but I don't feel that it was. It had that perfect mushy smell. I've read you will know the smell when u have a bacterial contam? Myc won't colonize over bacteria so why did my cake colonize %100 if i had a contam? All my jars look exactly the same and fruiting them with no problems?

I realize that now... I intend on buying a case of the short wide 1/2 pints and poking 4 nail holes with a dry verm layer and I should ever have a prob w GE and contams can't seem to get past dry verm :-)

Yep your right, pussyfart must be wrong if you dont think so. You know.. since your jars didn't smell like bacteria

If there was say a 3/8 diameter hole on top where I removed the rubber self healing thing would it be too big a hole to leave open with a dry verm layer? I've been putting a piece of micro spore tape over the big hole I was worried a contam can get in if it's a big hole?

Don't put words in my mouth I never said he was wrong? Nobody ever explained how that works?! Will they grow together and still fruit? Can a jar still look and be %100 colonized of it has bacteria??

I said I don't feel that statement was correct... That's my noob ass opinion everyone has one and it's not any easier when nobody explained how a bacterial contam works... I asked if anyone could further explain but noooooo... Just that I had bacterial growth... Sounds like that's all I grow lol I'm a bacterial farmer lol

the white stuff is bacteria.
just use 4 puncture holes, cover with micropore tape and inoculate through the tape.

yep, depending on the extent of the bacteria present and what kind.
Ive seen bacteria so strong the jars cant even germinate spores and grow mycelium. I've also seen cubensis mycelium woop some bacterial ass plenty of times leaving only a path of smoking metabolites behind. unfortunately, It is a constant battle for the most part bacteria usually never truly leaves though, just waits for the mycelium to become weak and to exhausted to fight. again, the extent of bacteria plays the role, I've had bacterial subs go as far as 5 and 6 flushes. I have had bacterial subs put out 1 canopy, and the rest were about 2 inches tall and just exhausted lol. OP, Don't be discouraged Most of your jars look like they are going to be healthy enough to put out some beautiful fruits for you

Do me a favor and dont ever say myc piss again . That is metabolites. Metabolites are usually present when the myc is under stress. Like coming in contact with a contam or bacteria. Most of your antibiotics are made from these metabolites that mushrooms produce.

As long as your cakes colonize 100%, then go for it
