SO i have been having no luck spawning to bulk recently so i have been experimenting on the best way or any way for that matter that i can get my bacteria or mold infested grain to fruit. All that happens when i spawn to bulk recently (most of the time) is the grain appears to recolonise and then just stops stays white where the grain is then nothing. I'm thinking bacteria and/or mold in my grain is taking over and completley denying the myc of any growth. I thought i was on the right track as i have recently cracked down on my agar work but to no avail. These were innnoculated with cakes via slurry which were inoculated with lc inoculated with an agar wedge i thought was clean. anyway now that i have figured out this funky way to make my contammed grain jars pin i feel it is a waste as they seem too numbered per jar and too small. Maybe a GH or SGFC would work better but i thought i'd try it. After about a day of the jars being in the tub with medium stuffed poly in the top holes and two layers of the stiff felt for the bottom holes there was condensation on the walls as there would be with substrate in a normal mon situation. I have misted a few times over about a week and a half when they dry out. The poly did fall out of one of the holes for a good period of time causing rapid drying that may have caused this strange pinset or the fact that they could be trying to put out as a last result because of the contam.

It's not a cake. Its part of a larger cluster from a bulk sub that I flipped on its side after the first flush.

OP if all the jars are going bad then your LC is probably contamed. there is a lot of negative feedback on LC and I have never had good luck with it myself

not just lc any method multiple sources clones, ms to agar to grain same thing just started using my sab and a shmuv instead of my hood so hopefully narrowing some variables.

Your bulk substrate may be too wet for it to colonize.

Yah OP are you complaining because your pin set is too good. I don't get it. Like kizzle said it sounds like your bulk substrate is just too wet to colonise.

nope i've tried even too dry of substrate as i squeezed every bit of water i could out and still same thing. I'm using a brick of coir two qts of verm and 4 qts water so i thought i was on the low side of field capacity with that but i tried dryer anyways by sqeezing as much out as possible. I think i have a contam issue. I am not complaining that i have a good pinset just that this is the only way i can get pins other than pf cakes and I was worried i am going to end up with a bunch of aborts because there are so many pins. Thanks for the reassurance and i may use this thread to try to help me figure out my problem through all your insight. Most likely i am just not seeing the problem on agar so i will be taking pics of any and all plates i think are clean for all of you to decide. I will try spawning into subs with different water content to compare as well. Thanks for the help

Try using agar LI instead of slurry to inoculate your grain jars. It's a much cleaner method. Slurry will colonise fast but once you break up your grains to spawn them any bacteria that may be hiding will have a chance to get a foot hold while your mycelium is recovering. That's what I like about fruiting from bottles. You never have to break up your mycelium giving bacteria a second chance to take over. If you do continue growing from bottles try my tek It gets better yields than tubs anyway.

Depending on the size of the tub, this is debatable.

I'm speaking in terms of the amount of substrate materials used. It doesn't mater what size the tub is. 9 of my bottles contain the same amount of grain, coir, verm and gypsum as a 27 qt mini mono. IME the bottles yield more. 18 of my bottles equal a 66 qt mono and they still yield more IME. The bottles also take much less work to make. I put in less than 1 hour of work total from start to finish. preparing, inoculating and fruiting a 9 bottle set.

I've let some go for 3 flushes but I needed my jars for other grows so I stopped most after 2.
