True that, I do agree the feeding didn't seem to be enjoyable for the snake. And should have been done differently. I have a hard time even seeing animals in cages anymore, whether it be a mouse or a dog.
I've owned a lot of reptiles/amphibians, rodents etc myself. I know the connection you're talkin about. That insight comes from an appreciation of nature in general though, not just reptile keepers.
I just don't think acaterpillar's practice warrants the kind of disgust and hate you're expressing. He's not doing weird experiments on them or anything.

Well luckily it's moulted, and can now start eating live fuzzies; so no more hand feeding.
For the record, I fed it pinkies twice since the video and it took the food without me having to push it into it's mouth.
I had to do that in the beginning because it wasn't eating for quite some time, and I don't have a properly sized tube for tube feeding (yes I researched how to feed juvenile hots). It would bite the pinky several times, but wouldn't eat it unless I pushed it slightly into it's mouth. Then it would quickly calm down and seem more relaxed.
I probably didn't have to push the pinky further into it's mouth in the video. It probably realized it was being fed by that point.
I apologize for offending people.
But I'm not gonna apologize for the choices I'm making.
If you're offended by the way I'm caring for this snake, then you have a whole lot more in the you'll find to be far more appalling.
This thread is being derailed though.

It was probably used to eating small lizards, frogs, and bugs. Could also try scenting pinkies with an anole if its still reluctant to eat.

It's become accustomed to the pinkies now, and is eager to eat them. No more "shoving down it's throat"
It's probably hungry because I should have started feeding it fuzzies (baby live mice) after it's last molt, but my money is tight and I stocked up on pinkies.

I know, right? I can't get over how beautiful it is. It's really hard to leave it alone nearly at all times because they don't like to be disturbed; especially when young.

This would be correct. I found it on the edge of a riparian area with plenty baby frogs and lizards.
It didn't grow accustomed to the pinkies until the third or fourth feeding, but now it will take the pinky into it's mouth as food after just the first bite.
Part of me feels really bad about this, but I can't wait to watch it catch live fuzzies. It just moulted, so it's just now big enough for the smallest ones.
Also, I'm preparing my indoor vivarium for the winter currently.
I'm looking at pros/cons between glass and plastic. I'm leaning towards plastic, but I'd like to hear what other user's opinions on the matter may be.

New container for Coatl to last through the winter:

He seems much more feisty in the new container. He'll get out onto the ground of my floor before I get a chance to scoop him up (granted I wear leather pants and leather boots when working with venomous snakes). The container does seems a little shallow which had me worried, but it seems to be the container that most hobbyist snake racks use.
Hand fed him a pinky very easily today. Tried to feed a fuzzy to him. He tore the shit out of it, but I haven't gone back to see if he's come to collect his prize. He seems to like to bite his food a couple of times and then return to the food after a few minutes in order to eat.
Is this natural behavior of most pit vipers? Kind of like Grizzly bears who like to leave after they've killed their prey?
I guess it would make sense giving the venom time to take effect and making sure the prey is 100% dead
I'm about to go see if it ate the fuzzy I tried giving.
If not, I"ll probably have to remove that thing tomorrow and throw it in the compost pile.

Well Juveniles are either pissed off or content, and almost anytime it's viewable; it's gonna be pissed off. If you knew Akdigstrodon psychology a little better then you'd get it. It won't be docile and able to free-handle (with tolerance) till it's much older.
Lots of snakes are like this too.
Anyways, Coatl is at least eating hand fed pinkies regularly and drinking water, seems like it may only want one pinky a week now that it is getting colder outside.
I'm going to try to feed it a fuzzy next time, or add some calcium to the pinky if the fuzzy is still too big for it.

Im pretty familiar with coppers. Here's a thought, switch it to rat pups. Youre obviously not going to release it from your shoe box, you might as well feed it something right.

Yeah, I'm keeping it in a shoe box. I guess you haven't looked into snake racks. I'm basically running a single tub setup.
Quality trolling so far.

I'm pretty sure rat pups are a bit larger than fuzzies, so I'm gonna have to wait. Eventually I'll just be feeding it full sized rats. Then I can just freeze the ones my cat brings home for it
But not really, who knows what parasites can survive a freezer
I really need to find a cheap local supply on live food.

Maybe three or four pairs of shoes.... The Herp term for that container is a 'Snake Tub'. Just google it dude, it's pretty interesting (if you're gonna pretend like you know this stuff).
You'd be super offended by the specification the professional Herpetologists recommend on tub sizes

Well you'll get better growth and a healthier snake off rat pups for various reasons you probably dont really care to hear. Mice are pretty much empty calories and cause loose shits. Plus things lime these are always something to consider when bringing something into a long fast that is still that young.

Dude, they are called shoe boxes. They were originally used to store shoes asshole. If you could pull your head out of your ass you might learn something here.
