Cakes to bulk?

Making 24 half pint brf cakes, want to grind em down and mix with verm and coir sub. Pretty sure there is a tek called Damon's or Damions or something, i dont remember. Anybody provide some info about their own personal experience doing this? Id be using a 1:4 ratio. Would it make a noticeable difference in yield?

Grains yield more from my experience....
I've done exactly what you mentioned but at half the ratio... 1 to 2, vermiculite gets compressed easily when using bulk substrate like verm+coir and can lead to excess co2 causing poisoning which can lead to contamination....I've had it happen when going crazy with high ratios.
Still, you will yield a pretty good average off of 12 half pints to bulk....4oz dry was my average yield.
But once I switched over to grain and 1L jars, 12 would put out a average of 10-12ozs dry....
and yes, I realize there is a difference in the amount of spawn used...I just find grains easier to use for bulk.... You'll do fine with cakes though op.

So would a 1:4 ratio be a complete failure? Idk how easy it is for a project to get contaminated but my first and only grow i did pf tek and didnt use a glove box at all and werent in completely sterile rooms. Pretty much just sprayed febreeze and worked quickly as possible and the entire grow i never came across 1 contam and off of 9 brf cakes, 3 flushes yielded around 3.5 - 4 oz dry in all. I just dont want to put all the time and effort into trying to go bulk with brf, verm, and coir if i would end up doing better with just dunking, rolling and using em as cakes. Even then i imagine id at least pull about 10 ounces dry in all. Using grain sounds so tempting but i dont have a pressure cooker and i just imagine it being more complicated than brf. Either way i need some boomers for a fbz concert in a month

I've done cakes to bulk a while back ( to save space in my grow room ) and it worked pretty good I used my own tek but it's pretty close to this one and it's so simple http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/11916595

Cakes to bulk have only yielded mediocre results for me, but when I did them I was under the impression that a 1:4 spawn ratio was high. Cakes aren't as nutrient dense as grains so you'll definitely want a 50:50 mix of cakes and bulk substrate. If only I knew then what I know now.

1:1 cakes to coir is what I'd do. cakes are already 2/3's verm so no need to add more IMO.

I had no grasp of this concept when I did 16qt mini monos with 4 half pint cakes and had such mediocre results. I got 1.5 oz dry out of 3 flushes on 2 tubs and thought that was badass, but in hindsight it was pretty unremarkable.

No you cant use peat as a substrate. It makes a good casing layer though. I get my gypsum by crushing pieces of drywall. You can skip the gypsum If you have to.

I have a great tek for prepping drywall lol. First you have to let it sit outside for fuck knows how long, then most of the paper will peel off. Scrub the rest of the paper off with a stainless scour pad under running water and chop it up in the blender. It was the first time my pile of miscellaneous shit has done anything besides take up space

Get peat moss from any big box hardware store. You can get coir from the pet store, and that shit is handy.

I put my drywall in a pillow case on a concrete floor and wack it with a hammer until the paper separates then throw it in an old blender to turn it into powder.

Ther is a type of glass rock. Which is a mix of gypsum and fiberglass. It is used for fire separation in apartment buildings. Moste drywall is just compressed gypsum though. Stay away from any green or blue drywall as it is anti frugal.
