Don't toss it.
Post pics.
Its probably metabolites which are common with a coir substrate
Edit: and put it into fruiting!

i also got q cake with a little yellow on the bottom. put it in quarantine for a couple days before you toss it. i keep a secluded tote for any questionable jars. better to wait a few days to see if its contam for sure rather than toss it and lose some potential magic!
also post sum pics that will help a lot!

Man it just looks like metabolites to me...
Plus you got a decent pinset rockin.
I would fruit, mist and fan. But that's just me tho.

Those metabolites could be a sign of contamination, but I wouldn't sweat it right now. There's nothing you can really do anyway. Just fruit it and keep an eye on it.

Very true... RR says metabolites can appear in coir substrates because it is harder for the mycelium to digest. But I have seen them before a green mold of some sort shows up.

I think there is some truth to the coir being harder to metabolize and heat helping break it down better so it can be metabolized more easily. That's why I heat it really well. Also, sterilizing seams to work well too.

I haven't tried the sterilization yet.
I do make sure its hitting around 170f for 1.5 hours, but it has definitely hit over 200 before when I've been drinking... Which I know isn't true pasteurization, and might cause problems for other substrates...
makes me think the whole "coir is contamn resistant, only needs cooked" thing is actually true.
There are definitely no noticeable adverse effects from cooking it too hot as long as you're at Field capacity, ime.
I wish I could find that RR quote.

One other point to remember is an additional function of the secretions is to help break down substrate. This is why we see more metabolites on a coir substrate even when it isn't contaminated; they're helping to 'pre-digest' the coir out of lack of a better term. I realize that isn't the point of this thread but wanted to point that out about metabolites. RR

You know what's weird tho the one with the yellow mycelium is the coir but the other one is husk and it's having no problems you would think the husk would be harder for the mycelium to colonize on ?
