    #20239349 - 07/07/14 08:38 PM (9 years, 9 months ago)

so im playing far cry 3 on a gateway laptop hooked up to my tv.

no big deal right?

when i boot up far cry via uplay the sound will work, but as soon as i alt tab to go view a website, check email or anything, when i go back to the game the sound is nil.

anybodyhave any ideas on what the hell could be going on?

ive checked all the sound drivers to make sure they are up to date.

is the sound going through the TV or through the laptop?
Sounds like alt tabbing is somehow changing the audio settings, or causing the game to lose the audio somehow.

Known issue in some games. The only workaround AFAIK is playing the game in "Windowed" fullscreen mode.
Sometimes just alt-tabbing out and back in again may fix it. Or restarting the game.

it is def going through the tv. ill try the alt tab again when i reload the game.

shitty part about the far cry deal is you cant really just save where you are, you gotta go back to your last check point.

drivers, codecs, not up to date. Or perhaps the game just doesn't like to run with other programs open at the same time on your computer. Of course, you could always uninstall the game, and reinstall it, but who knows what that would do to your saves.

Much smarter I think would be if you updated your computer, just my opinion

I doubt it's his computer, or a driver or codec issue ( he mentioned he updated the drivers already)... this is a problem that I've heard of happening in numerous games, and its happened to me as well in some games. It may just be a game issue or it's possible it could be driver related, such as the drivers losing sync when alt tabbed, or crashing. Likely it has something to do with the way its being run in Full screen mode, when you alt tab it and it switches to the windows desktop it loses communication or switches audio sources. Most likely running it in Windowed mode would solve that problem. Whenever that's a problem in a game that's usually the solution. If you want to alt-tab a lot anyway, Windowed mode is the most alt-tab friendly way of doing things, and some games are particularly sensitive to alt-tabbing in full screen mode.
