It's about as loud as a fish tank when it's running.

Leave it to turn on and off all the time.

Well they say that you shouldn't do it. I've never found a problem with it myself.

quick question ;; would it be o.k. to make the two vent holes on the sides near the top , just asking because a open hole on the top seems to me, to be a good place for "things" to fall in, or will the constant air flow comming up from below be enough to prevent "things" from falling insinde ?

Best if the holes are at the top for this reason.

The fundamental principal behind using air entrainment is to sufficiently mix the two (fresh air and stale air) together and then re-distribute them back into the environment in a more balanced way that is then more beneficial to the mushroom crop. Without this sufficient mixing of the gasses present within the grow space, the crops will remain stunted and will likely never reach their optimum potential.

With the poormans pod, the settling co2 air is met and diffused by a curtain of fresh air rising from beneath the Geo-lite surface. This rising flow of air is created from the air diffuser rod situated below the Geo-lite surface, which is powered by the air pump. The rising air pattern not only prohibits the heavier co2 air from settling down onto the bottom surface as usual but it also simultaneously diffuses the co2 with fresh air as it is distributed back into the environment or grow space where it can be put to good use.

In this way, the poor mans pod creates the same desired phenomenon as offered by more conventional means of air entrainment found in much larger-scale commercial applications where a mixing box is commonly used to accomplish this important task.

Here?s one for the guy?s

Hello everyone,

I'm a newbie and had some questions. A friend forwarded this thread about the growing chamber and I was greatly impressed at how much easier it was than hand spraying. Awesome setup. I did have a few questions about the chamber and the kids (my name for em) that hopefully somebody could answer.

My situation is this, after a few had grown mature off the sides of the cake and were picked they stopped growing until a couple days later when I noticed a ton of them growing from the bottom of the cakes that were sitting directly on perlite. I did notice these were definitely wetter and most of the stalks were thin and or had split.

My questions are....

1) are these bottom growers safe to consume and use for a spore print as compared to the original kids that had thick solid stalks. are they any weaker than the first ones?? any ideas why these are different?

2) next time around is it ok to place the kids on a paper towel rather than directly on perlite? the reason i ask is these bottom growers had tons of perlite stuck to them and having to wipe off each one is something i'd like to avoid next time.

Thanks in advance for any advice/guidance. This thread has been very informative for a newbie like me.

Cheers,
G

When using perlite put them on lids with moist verm in it. The perlite may be a little to moist for them.
