first time question
    #19887157 - 04/23/14 10:08 AM (9 years, 11 months ago)

Growing cubes, some of them are fine. One cake is growing and the veils open but no spores are produced. As cap gets older it also becomes wavy. Stems also almost look tumorous near cap. Thanks in advance for the help.

Guess that would be good to include. Wondering if anyone knows why they won't produce spores or if anyone has had a similar problem.

What variation of cubes are you growing? I know a lot of folks have trouble printing PE and APE, also PEU. That would explain the bulbous stems... not the wavy caps though. You'd probably get more answers if you post some photos

I've had some wavy caped fruits with poor spore production. In my case I think it was the result of an overly wet substrate and over misting.

you know you dont want them to drop the spores on cakes...only if you are making a sporeprint...right?

Traskei is the strain. Being grown from cakes, using poor mans terrerium (2 liters w/perlite) I am hoping the issue is just a moisture problem. This is a similar cap to the others (which are being dried currently.) I really just want to make sure they are still safe to munch. I got no spores from any caps on this cake. The other cakes mushrooms are growing and look normal, which is why I thought this is unusual. Thanks so much for the input guys, I love the community here. That cake also seemed to have a really high abortion rate.
