How to guide morel fruiting sclerotia
    #19774245 - 03/31/14 06:06 PM (10 years, 18 days ago)

I have sclerotia, I try to boot directly to the growth of fruiting bodies. It grows mycelium!

Morels are a symbiotic species. I believe cultivating them at home requires that you have a specific species of tree, the roots of which must be colonized by the morel mycelium.
I could be wrong, but perhaps you could use the search bar. I hear of people getting great results growing mushrooms when they extensively research beforehand.

not with morels, it's more of a luck thing unless you have 'the patent' on the strain that fruits indoors.

I don't believe in luck, except what I make myself by doing things correctly. Granted sometimes one doesn't know all the factors in volved to do them correctly, but all that can be learned.

go figure huh? but one of the ways of doing research is talking about it in a forum like this. Though there is a 'search' function.

Did you dry out the sclerotia first and then soak to rehydrate?  Did you case the stones in peat/verm or some other mix?

Yes, already full replenishment. Sclerotia into the soil waiting for fruiting. Prepare everything!

Web search is very much technology and related patents, but no good results appear. Are trying their cultivation methods.

do you have M. rufobrunnea?  That is the only one that fruits indoors as far as I know.

No distinction between stones in peat / vermiculite or other combinations, using only the soil.

Do you have any good way to guide the fruiting bodies grow?

Hello. Disclaimer...I have zero fungi growth experience.
I recently stumbled across this site and picked up on the morel cultivation threads, which have been constant for the last 8 years. Since discovering these discussions I have been researching. My thoughts...

Have you guys read mills patent?
It doesn't seem to leave much unanswered.(regarding posts from years past, of him lying about strain type..well who knows)
Subsequently, I am assuming that the felllas that patented the selling of elm saplings inocced with myc were simply side stepping mills patent to produce a viable business model off the fruit in general. Yes morchella is an arbuscular mycorrhizal fungus. My reading on that concludes that the host organism receive most if not all of the benefit of the symbiotic relationship. Possibly, the fungi is intended only to help out other forest plants. This is also concurrent with mills patent.
Anyway,

Wu...nice job getting sclerotia, are you sure that the myc/scl depleted all available nutrients? Did you water the scl? Sclerotia are nutrient storage/ mycelia are like roots. Based on my reading, upon sufficient growth of scl/myc network, ALL nutrients must be removed from substrate and water must commence. 90% humidity, 70* F, 60% moisture content of substrate, cross ventilation at 30cm-minute. Once pinned, moisture content is gradually(week or two) dropped to 50% and air temp increased to 75.

Whatever, read the patent links, are three are basically the same. It does make sense though. Organism will feed continuously without fruiting. Upon depletion of nutrients, and proper environmental conditions, fruiting occurs to perpetuate growth in a more advantageous area.

http://www.thefarm.org/mushroom/morel.html

Try this too. This mentions light, 12 on 12 off. Also(from those patent links) supposedly the water needs to be percolated..? Which makes it sounds like it from within the substrate but I would think rain like droplet system would suffice. This link(that was based on mills)  also mentions a wintering cycle but the patent does not.

Peace
