Why do so many of you insist that you have to watch a movie high? Especially on dxm? The other week, I posted in the pub that I didn't enjoy Evil Dead 2 as much as I did when I was 13, and some kid chimes in with, "watch it while robo-trippin, you'll get it then."
I love drugs, and I love movies, but if I'm watching something I've never seen before, I watch it sober. Pretty much the only movies I'll watch after getting high are movies I've seen a million times and it doesn't matter if I nod out or get distracted.
Also: why dxm? I'm assuming its because of how easy it is for kids to acquire and this advice is coming from kids. I'm an adult; I stopped using dxm when I was 17. Is it becoming resurgent in drug culture, or am I just talking to a bunch of kids? (Not rhetorical- I'm curious)

DXM made the red wedding so painful for me. Didn't see it coming
I probably should watch more things sober, it's usually only weed. I have been waiting until far in to smoke, but it's special to me. I don't personally think it changes the quality of a movie, I mean, Krull. I was so high, and it was so, so painfully bad, but 400 Blows was great and I was at least clear headed, if not not high
If getting high would get some of the people I know to give out there movies a chance, I'd like that
I noticed on my 400 Blows thread it said 'art house' translated to normal American boring

Yeah, I think there was a poll awhile back and, indeed, the vast majority of peeps here are under 25 and many of them under 21. Sooooo you figured correctly.

But why take a bunch of a drug that causes confusion and watch a movie that requires attention and retention? I used to take a lot of LSD at raves, because the environment lent itself to acid use. But a Von Trier film on dissociates? That shows a fundamental misunderstanding of both the drug and the movie viewing experience.
Don't get me wrong; I think the 2 can go nicely together. I recently watched 2001: a Space Odyssey on 4-aco-dmt and it was great, but that's a movie I've seen a lot so I didn't need to pay attention to the plot and it's heavily visually oriented; fit the drug nicely. I'm just too old to understand young people.
All that said, I don't really count smoking weed before watching a movie as getting "high". For lots of people, anything they do stoned is just as normal as it is sober. I'm talking about drugs that mess your mind up, like dxm or LSD.

At least check it out first, so you arent trippig, then something that makes the trip go bad comes on that 70's show, so much pain I think they are more into their experiance, while the artistic vision takes a second place to their eperiance of watching it.
I won't judge, maybe some people will watch it fucked up, then the rewatch will be more significant somehow.
Personally, sometimes I'll barely get the narrative the first time and just try to get into the world, and the second watch is so vivid and great
Not last night though, can' believe that movie was 50, so well shot

How is she supposed to know that?
The only movie of his I've seen is Melancholia which I did not like very much, but I'm not movie buff. Been meaning to check this out.

A lot of people don't even know LVT exists. He refuses to fly and has never been to Hollywood. But once you get into them, it's hard not to get hooked. He's a real polarized filmmaker; I find that there are pretty much no people who say his films are just "alright". People tend to love them or hate them with very little middle ground. I think his best films for first time viewers are either 'Dancer in the Dark' (especially if you're a fan of Bjork) or 'Dogville'.

And even if you love one you can still hate others.
I love nymphomaniac, hate dogville.
I love Björk so I will watch dancer in the dark soon. Haven't seen that one yet.

She's amazing in it. That's probably my favorite of all his movies, and I usually don't like musicals. I haven't seen Melancholia yet. It's on Netflix so I keep thinking I'll get around to it and then never do.

Sure, there are plenty of sex scenes, but it's a movie full of metaphor; if all you see is a "fap fest", it's WAY beyond your mental grasp and you shouldn't even try. Anyone who's seen a Von Trier film will have a rough idea if what to expect and see the beauty of this art.
yesir.
he is bad-ass. Anti-christ and Breaking the Waves are great. definitely gonna check this out.

Still watching a lot of movies alright, mostly garbage. That's why I'm so excited about 'Nymphomaniac'.

it's hard to get excited for any of the usual garbage. that's why we have Von Trier and Steve McQueen and shit! (even though Shmrad Pitt in 12 Years was a total disappointment; fuck that guy in a serious movie.)
Nymphomaniac looks like a good flick to see with your chick!
(not. but c'mon who doesn't want to have a nice long deep conversation about our persona's right after a nice movie about people fucking people's persona's; right?)
he needs to possibly spend less time talking psychology with the wife. damn, he's fuckin' things up for anyone who see his movies. "hey honey, remember that time our baby died, yeah, that was great; wanna go see a movie?" *abortion falls out of the sky*
