could always try manure, if coir is being resistant to your attempts...

Def try manure if you can source it, I never had an issue with contams when I used manure zero, but when I first moved to coir because of ease of use and availability I struggled with contams a little, go figure huh

Spawned my monotub with sterile cvg today. Not expecting anything either way so we shall see.

The spawn looked and smelled nice so I'm hoping I'll at least get a flush out of it!

Will keep everyone updated on how this turns out.

I would like to get manure but I live in the city. There's countryside all around not too far away but I don't know of anyone to get it from.

I could find it if i really worked at it. Storage is a concern to me because of the smell and I don't know much about manure period.

How's the store bought stuff? Can it work the same as regular field aged stuff?

I bought some cow manure called moonure or something last summer but never got around to using it.

the store bought is composted and doesn't work nearly as well as field aged, if your fucking up coir i'd skip manure and figure out whats going wrong

I got 2 55 gallon totes full of golden nuggets and 2 bales of straw for the summer, i love coir but i'm going back to my backbone for a bit to force some good technique on myself, coir makes me lazy:crazy:

I just can't figure out why I can let a bag or jar colonize, then just open it up and leave it out and it doesn't turn green. I can also pasteurize coir and leave it out in open air and it doesn't turn green.

Then, when I add the two together, it's a green-fest.

I have also taken grains from my spawn jars and bags on a few occasions, placed them on agar, and grown only mycelium.

So weird!

It's the smallest room in the house, probably 10x10 maybe 12x12. The windows are facing eastward. Door always closed.

Nothing in the room except for my hood and the table it goes on. Plus a whatever's colonizing in jars and bags. I do have one monotub in there as of yesterday.

A few growing supplies here and there such as a few empty jars, box of petris, etc. Very far away from the kitchen. I keep it clean.

Unless there's a contam that rides along with the myc on agar and never sporulates (or turns any other color) then it's clean.

I've heard of so called ninja contams, but I'd assume they'd eventually sporulate or make themselves known one way or the other. Plus I've started over with original cultures a couple of times.

I've done substrate with field capacity, below capacity and above capacity and had the same results.

This is the first time I've done sterilized coir. Maybe it'll help.

It just blows my mind that my spawn and substrate both seem clean and will stay normal but when I add the two together it equals green.

i think mold can hide w/o turning colors on plates for sure.  mad chef had poics posted of his "hidden contam" thing, he had a similar problem to you.  usually if its small, u won't have the plate around long enough to make it turn green, other times u will see a green spot or two along the edge.  i look for whispy, then i look for metal scrub brush pattern, or a more chaotic pattern of growth in that thin myc.  and if I'm not sure, i always transfer to a new plate again before putting it to grain.

I love how fast the myc can tear through sterilized coir. It looks great. Please keep us posted.

How's the air circulation in the room? Is the air in the room ever being exchanged over time to keep from going stale?
