Question, what are 'pins'?

Pins are immature mushrooms, where the cap hasn't yet opened to expose the gills.

Quote:

If pins are starting to dry out and it rains, will those pins fruit?

Mostly the answer is yes but it depends on how dried they get.

Hi TimmiT, is the psilocybin content of pins still enough or are they far less greater than mature mushrooms?

You shouldn't pick pins. Let them grow and mature so they have a chance to release their spores. The psilocybin concentration is probably about the same as mature mushrooms, but they have less mass and so less psilocybin in total.

Hahaha I know it sounds mad, I just printed an entire patch of subs I found and made a bulk spore mixture, I'm no expert but I thought I'd do my part and re-distribute the goodies that got ruined in the process of their mulching, which I am starting to think that it is no coincidence that it occurs right when the season begins.
Edit: I'm such a sucker for conspiracy theories

haha well who knows hey? last year i found a patch, some of the subs were soggy and ruined so i crushed em all up in some water (water turned this crazy blue color, fucking awesome!) and tipped it outside in my backyard, it was only 20g's fresh. then a few weeks later i put 3 1 inch myc cardboard pieces in the ground and added a few garbage bags full of mulch. forgot about it till the other day and had a look. found 6 blue stems underneath a weed. The caps were soggy and rotten (exactly the way i found their ancestors haha) hence no pics yet but next time the weathers right ill post some . I plan to mulch the fuck out of my backyard this season and see if the myc spreads because the mulch from last year only covers about a meter x half a meter. Does anyone know how long it would take for the myc to colonize 5 x 2.5 meters?

Is the season over?
There hasn't been rain in a while and winter is really setting in. Whats the vibe, will actives continue to grow in the cold weather of late?

Hunting Forum Rules:

Quote:

5. Do not make threads or posts discussing or reporting the weather.
This includes complaining about the weather, asking if the current weather is "good for shrooms", or how long to wait after rain fall to go hunting.  If it has rained within the last 1-10 days, and the temperatures are correct for the type of mushroom you're looking for, and the time of year is correct then it is certain that that the mushroom you are looking for is growing.

6.  No asking when or where mushrooms, or a specific mushroom species will grow.
This includes, asking what habitat a mushroom[s] can be found- or their preferred fruiting conditions.  This can be very simply answered by using the "search posts" feature: http://www.shroomery.org/forums/search.php

They're still out there. its up to you to find the micro-climates. Any area that would fruit and isn't getting a frost in the morning should still be fruiting. Ive had patches fruit through august and into early september. If the conditions are right, have a look!

Once you start picking, and get to know the seasons in and out you will understand more.. Its constantly changing every year when it starts and like this year IF IT DAMN STARTS and when it ends.

Anyhow cut a long story short, if you have no psilocybe subaeruginosa mushrooms on hand to last the summer out, come again in 9 months or so. On the miracle chance find and un-invanded micro-climate somewhere around Sydney, and you find some, the kudos, but for now, Sydney is mostly gone for this year.

Went out for a hunt today, thought conditions in Sydney would be perfect. Found absolutely nothing. My regular spots have not produced any fruit in two years now. Is this unusual?

Anyone have any spare spore prints from their finds this year?
