You can venture deep into the wilderness and still find subs. Look for trees fallen from decades ago. You want the trunks to be more or less completely overgrown with dirt and moss. It'll look like a small dirt mound with a fallen tree sticking out of it. The dirt acts as a moisture barrier and i've found big healthy patches all over the place by simply looking out for the downed trees.

Other non active species tend to colonize the loose wood chips in the forests quicker than the subs can, which makes finding them extra difficult.

Found these up in the snoweys today

Excellent thanks for the information. I'll read up more about the particular species as I am interested in knowing when they are most likely to spawn after raining. I mean is it pointless heading out +4 days after rain etc. I love seeing all the different varieties but it would be great if I could find some actives!!

Dont be so sure. the moisture will stick around for weeks after a rain. Especially if there's a dew every morning! I got all of mine above from an area that hasn't had rain in almost two weeks. A thick enough canopy will keep everything nice and humid .

Unfortunately where I was conditions were just too dry. What the fuck is with 22oC + in May? I scoped out the area and I believe it would have been perfect if we had some rain!!!

Hey!

Just went for my first hunt and didn't find much.
I'm new to this so please take it easy on me, can anyone tell me if these are active or not?

I'm 90% sure they are not but there's still a bit of hope in me that says they are.

THANK YOU!

Then don't post it in an actives thread. Make a separate ID thread.

Probably Hypholoma fasciculare which is toxic and not active

Has anyone had any more luck around the blue mountains?
I've been lurking for a few years and finally decided to go and hunt for myself. I've only been once before and was somewhat successful up the coast but this is my first time in the mountains. Is early afternoon too late to hope to find any? Also are there any non actives that look similar to subs but don't bruise blue? Found two little ones that looked like young subs earlier but haven't bruised blue

Thanks in advance

Blue mountains hunt today. Lots of little ones, this was all I could pick. Wanting to do some hunting in Sydney but not sure where to go. Will report on those hunts later.
