2nd grow, wbs, g2g? agar?
    #19815889 - 04/08/14 10:42 PM (10 years, 10 days ago)

(Kind of long post)
I decided to make another thread, (sorry if that's wrong)
the other thread was started to long ago, and now I'm really back and getting things going again.
As of the moment I have 4 quart jars going,(pre-made from a sponsor) used left over cc's from first grow, 2 jars showing signs of life, and 2 doing nothing, these were to keep me busy till I can order more spores, the name was mexi-cube.

This is what I need to so to prepare wbs correct?

`run wbs through cold water under pours out clean.
`soak in warm water for 12 hours.
`add wbs and soaking water into pot on stove
and turn on high once simmering remove and let cool.
`dry on paper towels for 20 mins until dry on outside,
` fill jars 2/3 way full.
`poke hole in lid, add polyfill, add ring then tin foil on top.
`then put jars in the PC add enough water 90min.
`after PC, take out and let them cool, shake a little to distribute moisture and loosen grains.
`once cool insert 1/2cc - 1cc in each jar.
let them do there thing.

I feel confident on everything but how tight I have the polyfill and the moisture content before adding the wbs to the jars.
*And later in this thread I'd like help/tips and links on simple LC, agar and G2G.

I know, a little more time and less work with quarts, but I just wanna watch the halfs colonize, plus it's my first time from scratch, don't want to ruin big jars  and i'll change it to warm thanks,

I just threw that number down, i'll dry until I think the grains are at the best consistency.
is it safe to reuse jars with lids that have self healing injection ports/GE spot

I hope the fruits make up for the slow colonization, it's so slow. :frown:

I took a step back, and with MS I need more surface area, so I'm doing 2 27qt monos, 1 bucket, and 2 mini monos/dubtubs, soon I'm going to knock up 24 half pint jars with 20cc's and I have 3 quart jars colonizing now.

The mycelium always contracts after a shake. It should be visible again within a day or two.

thanks,
was just worrying because on my first grow there were still clumps of mycelium left after the shake, they were bags though and these jars shook a little better.

my spores get here tomorrow, I've started soaking the WBS, rinsed twice and put in a bowl of warm water and set on a shelf till tomorrow, i'll take it out of the water around 12-14 hours is that ok? and I read somewhere its best to put the water its soaked in in a pot of water and set on high, when it comes to a simmer, take it off and drain, then set on paper towels and patted outside of the grains dry,

I soak in hot water. 12-14 hours is a bit short but it might be ok. You want to simmer it in the soak water for about 10 minutes but don't let it boil. Then strain it and shake it up to release as much steam as possible before laying it out to dry.

if I let it boil it'll get sticky from the starch, i can't remember where i read it but someone said it keeps them from getting sticky to just take off when it starts simmering, and what hour soak is ideal?

depends on temp of water youre soakin it in, in my experience.  cold tap around 18hrs.  warm/hot tap 10-14hrs.  i always thought 24hrs was to long.

You are rite you don't want to let it boil but you should let it simmer for a while after you see steam. If the grains aren't hot enough they won't steam dry as well.
I've had 12 hour soaks work for me in the past but I generally give it 20-24. That way I know my grains are fully hydrated. The moste important thing IMO is that you get the outside surface of the grains dry before putting them in your jars.

:whathesaid:

soaking them leads to less burst grains during simmer which will lead to the sticky/starchy shit you dont want
