VYBE'S simple verm brick tek * 2
    #19806024 - 04/06/14 10:48 PM (9 years, 11 months ago)

TIME TO BEEF UP YOUR CAKES!

This is a simple tek that can double or even triple your flushes from a single BRF cake. By following the steps listed below you will use a half pint brf jar as spawn to create a bulk vermeculite cake. In my experience, these verm cakes produce great, even flushes that you can't get form just birthing a single BRF cake. So far, my success rate has been 100% with these cakes by following these steps, I always love the results an  I've never had a contam issue.

WHAT'S NEEDED?
1Pint vermeculite (at field capacity)
1/2 pint spawn (I use brf jars)
Medium sized Tupperware container

STEPS

1) Lay down a loose layer of half your verm (which should be at field capacity) in your Tupperware container.

2) finely crumble your 100% colonized brf cake (When making these verm cakes I BIRTH my cakes 24hrs after 100% colonization and  I dunk for 24hrs before I crumble) Then put your crumbled cake on top of the verm you just put in your container! Be sure it's a nice even layer!

3) Loosely put the rest of the verm on top of the layer of spawn you just put down. It really needs to be loose so the mycelium can colonize the verm with ease.

4) Throw it in your fc!

5) After about 2 days the myc should start covering the top layer of Verm. At this point you should carefully remove the verm cake from your Tupperware container and place it on a piece of foil.

6) Fan/mist twice a say and Enjoy the results!

Thanks for your interest! This would be an idea transition form the pf tek to bulk subs. Or it's perfect for people who don't want to use grains but still want to get some extra weight. I hope this tek helps! It's my first so be sure  comment!

THANKS!

P.s. On average, these bricks yield 125 grams wet on the first flush and 70 grams wet on their second flush IME. (And when taken car of properly)

HERE are some picks of some of my first brick.

The pics in my sig are also all from cakes I have done

So you crumble and case a pftek cake? Isn't rolling in verm effectively doing the same but without crumbling lol.

Is that what you did in the signature pics?

Nice pics btw looks like you had a heavy pin set that developed into some beautiful fruits.

This using verm as a bulk substrate. The results of the verm cakes kill the results of a cake that's just rolled in verm. All the pics in my sig are bulk verm bricks

If your thinkin on the lines of this

Than I'd recommended letting it colonize for about two days before fruiting

The extra nutrients that are held in the verm brick increase the yield drastically

That's basically the same except I just remove the verm brick form the container!

And I always put it in my fc immediately and I'm 8/8 no contains and great success every time.

My first two bricks were verm/coir at a 50:50 ratio but honestly, I've had just as great results since I switched to all verm. It saves me some money and still gives me the weight!

But gypsum and coir are never bad additions!

when we spawn to bulk the grain is our main nutrition source, verm provides trace minerals and water

Ahhhh, I see! That makes sense haha.

Well I might experiment with a few more recipes but I really wanted to post the straight verm recipe because it's the simplest recipe there is that yields this much. I figured it could help people get an idea of what the more complicated bulk teks are like

Do you sterilize the verm first?

I don't sterilize the verm but it wouldn't hurt anything!

I'll give this a whirl maybe. I have 24 jars fully colonized. I was thinking about spawning 12 of them to damons 50/50 tek.

That's what I'm doing with 10 of my 20 PESA jars I have right now! I love that tek. The results from following that tek will be better than following this one but this one is just quick, simple, and cheap.

You could even just use the same spawn to sub ratio but use 3 or 4 cakes in a bigger Tupperware container. I'm about  do a grow log of me using 10 cakes and just spawning to straight verm. I'm interested  the results.

Pasteurize your field consistency verm, and just put a layer of that at the bottom of your monotub, then, with clean hands, crumble your cakes to quarter-silver dollar size pieces in an even layer, 2 inches thick.  Top it off with a thin layer of pasteurized casing (50/50+) or coco/verm. Thin, like just enough to cover it up and no myc poking through. It should start pinning in 12-16 days. I've gotten best results (way more pins) with coco/verm. Verm by itself does not work so hot as a casing..in my experience. Bad for pins.
You can skip the verm on the bottom layer...but I found it works well to keep the subsequent flushes hydrated.  I did it like this for a long time and got excellent results.  You get WAY more fruits than if you just birth your cakes in an FC.  Don't let anybody tell you differently!

I'm sure that would work great, too. (supposing you mean mixing it in with the coir/verm rather than layers.)  But I can't comment because I haven't actually done it that way, with cakes.  I have with grain, however, mixing it in with coir/verm works amazingly!  Especially when you add another thin layer of coir/verm to "case" it on top. (I know, I know, it's not technically called casing....)
