I went to hunt in several parts local to me, I searched quite a bit and not a single find, not even a inactive, I fear this season is going to end up the same as last for me, nothing but inactives. It's really discouraging.

I didn't know the season started this early. I'll have to check out my area!
At the end of the last season I had a quick look around my area and found LOTS of what I now assume were L. Ceres because they looked like the ones previously posted and did not bruise blue or leave a purple spore print. I threw them away. Now that I've looked through the different species of psilocybin mushrooms that grow in Victoria, some of what I found could of been Gymnopilus purpuratus for all I know.

Had a look at my favorite spot today, was hoping that after the last few days rain and the little bit of sun today things might be starting to pop up but there was nothing but soggy pine needles and mud :-( The spot I visit is fairly close to a dirt road that has the typical drainage trenches where rain the falls on the road flows off to. I thought perhaps I might have some luck around these trenches due to the extra water that pools in and around them. Unfortunately all I found were the same nasty purple looking ones I found the other day except that now they had turned a weird orange-yellow color and had started to decompose already. They had bright yellow gills, really thick stems and they smelled like off milk. Certainly not what i was looking for and not that I am an expert, far from it, but from what I've seen and learnt over the seasons these particular ones looked extremely nasty and poisonous. Just the smell they gave off was enough to make me cover my nose and mouth with my t-shirt and that was only from squatting down to have a closer look, i didn't even have to touch them. they may as well have been screaming at me to back the hell off and keep walking. Like I said I am no expert, but i definitely got a bad vibe from these. I took a few pics to show you guys in case you guys had some ideas or advice. Hopefully I'll find something worthwhile soon I am starting to have doubts about my favorite spot this year and I am starting to doubt my hunting skills too :-( Hopefully I am just a little bit early and things will kick off soon but in the mean time "that makes me a sad panda".

Has anyone ever visited the pine plantations near Daylesford? I was there in September last year and I noticed massive pine plantations that went on for miles and miles on the way there. The plantations were about half an hour from Daylesford towards the Melbourne direction. I have since done some research and from what I can see it seems that the plantations are public land and people are free to enter them and wander around freely. I have even read some foodie blogs of people who go up there looking for ones to cook and eat like slippery jacks and others. This definitely leads me to believe the type i'm after are lurking around there as well, but as I live about 2-3 hours from there I was hoping someone might have some advice or suggestions about hunting around these plantations and weather its worth making the trip?

Ah damn it I think I'm going to have to skip this season, I just agreed to change to a medication that blocks mushrooms because I was having some difficulties. I had been specifically selecting medications that don't block them for a long time but it hasn't really worked out.
Hold me.

I have found pine plantations to be a waste of time.. you would be able to find them closer to home for sure!
I tend to look for pine trees and gum trees together in small groups 5-10 trees..

Haha love stealing mushroom bags from supermarkets. The checkout chicks always look at me weird when I have ten in my basket.

You're trying to pick incredibly early in the season, dont get disheartened. A trusted source has told me this year and the next two, shall be magnificent!
Wait a few more weeks before hunting if you're going to get discouraged by finding nothing, if not, enjoy the beautiful walk in nature

It was either that or go to maccas and ask for a few paper bags haha..
I thought if people are paranoid about being seen picking shrooms putting a paper bag inside an empty packet of chips would be a good idea..
people would have no idea what was really in there.
