Hey there again, I worked out the issue with slow colonizing jars (I just let em keep on going) The sub colonized really well, only took about 4 days at ~80-85 degrees F, now I am getting ready to fruit. I am planning on lowering temp to 72-75, running a fan and evaporative humidifier because I live in an EXTREMELY dry climate. My question now is in regards to whether or not the casing layer is colonized enough to begin. Here is a pic of the tub right now:
thanks for any replies.

Thanks again, cronicr! Just use same ratios of rye berry spawn/substrate as WBS/subsrate?

Yep just make sure you hydrate your grain properly, rye will work better with a different prep.

I used Frank's method to get the results in my sig. Using oats now. Thanks everyone. First tub is done and gone. 5 more fruiting and 30 quarts colonizing. G2g ftw. Thanks everyone for helping.

Hey all, back for some more wisdom. I got a few pics that will hopefully help you help me!
I got a couple questions. First, I was looking at my mono yesterday and noticed it has quiet a bit of 'dew' on the mycelium and casing layer. It had been in 70-78 degrees w/ 70-99% RH and has an fan running in the room (aka fruiting conditions) for about 3 days. Interestingly though there is one corner of the tub that seems to not have any condensation on the side. Should I be worried about the dew or not? Should I be worried about the dry corner?
Second question is about this exceptionally white patch that has developed in the last 24 hours. It sorta looks like consolidated mycelium, but I am worried that it is a contam.
Lastly, it has been 4 days since putting the tub into fruiting conditions and from the pics you'll see the progress. I don't see any pins, is this normal?
Here are the pics:

I believe you, but I was under the impression that trichoderma was green?

In it's mycelial phase, it's white. A distinct and different shade of white than healthy mushroom mycelium, but white never the less. Won't be long before it sporulates. When trichoderma sporulates, it turns green.

Sad to because the rest of that tub looked promising. Going to be sad when it turns green tomorrow. Toss it before that happens so you don't spread contamination Sorry

Man, what a bummer... Thanks for the quick replies though.
I guess for a first grow failure isn't all that bad. Certainly will try harder with sterility next time around.

surgery would have been a option but the risk would be comparable to cutting out cancer in a human.

Surgery is rarely successful because the contamination you see is usually just the tip of the iceberg.

Cutting out cancer sees a lot of success, cutting out trich not so much.
