Inoculating jars
    #19787117 - 04/03/14 12:40 AM (9 years, 11 months ago)

These are the jars I want to get http://www.ebay.com/itm/12-pc-32-oz-Quart-Ball-Wide-Mouth-Mason-Canning-Jars-w-Lids-Bands-Food-Storage-/121310186583?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1c3ea68c57 is this a good price and would making a hole in the middle and fill it with poly fill work? I'm new. And what are other good strategies

I'm assuming you're doing grains so make a hole for GE and RTV silicone a SFD on there and make an innoc hole if you're using a spore syringe. Pollyfil works but I don't trust it as well as using a SFD thats been siliconed on there tightly.

I'm sorry but I don't understand abbreviation I just joined this forum  yesterday lol I somewhat get what your saying just what does ge rtv sfd mean? And why did you assume I'm doing grain is there a different method if I don't use grain. I'm planned on using rr rice tek

GE = Gas exchange.

SFD = Synthetic filter disc.

RTV silicone is a type of high temp silicone that you can find at auto stores.

5-7 jars of spawn, a brick of coir and a couple qt's of verm for your bulk sub and 2-3 qts of casing material

u need 1/2 pints ideally for brf.  I'm sure i saw ppl do whole pints with brf too, but much less success. so if four 1/2 pints=1 qt, and u need 5 qts for a mono, u will need 5 x four 1/2 pints=twenty 1/2 pints jars, then add some in case any get contaminated.

for brf u also only need verm for filter, no poly, no RTV, no SFD is needed.  watch the "lets grow mushrooms" video, parts 1-4, and u will get a better idea, both visually and verbally.  mono tubs are not in the video, but spawning is.  just look at franks teks for mono stuff

:confused:

If by strain you mean variety no one can even tell the difference before they're dry unless they're albinos or PE.

What is best for bulk? Brown rice, WBS, or rye

most people would probably say rye>wbs>BR but a lot of people use wbs just fine all the time.
