US and Turkey to hit PKK By Jonny Dymond BBC Istanbul correspondent
PKK fighters The PKK and Turkey fought a bloody war for over 10 years Turkey and the US have agreed on an action-plan to eradicate the Kurdish paramilitary group, the PKK.
The group is thought to have around 5,000 members living in northern Iraq.
Ever since the US occupied Iraq, Turkey has been pressing Washington to crack down on the group which both countries designate as terrorist.
Details of the plan are not clear, but a US official said any military action would be carried out by US troops.
Any large scale Turkish military presence in northern Iraq would be opposed by the Kurdish groups which currently run the area.
Bitter war
This agreement is important for Turkey, as it marks a new stage in its long battle with the PKK.
It is also a sign of improving relations with the US.
The agreement will almost certainly help the Turkish Government in its efforts to persuade parliament to send Turkish troops to help out the US-led coalition.
The parliament will probably consider a request for around 10,000 troops later this month.
Turkey and the PKK fought a bitter war for more than a decade.
More than 30,000 people were killed, and over a million displaced from their homes - largely in the predominantly Kurdish southeastern part of the country.
The PKK have long sought refuge from Turkish troops in the mountains of northern Iraq.
Hmmm... I thought we attacked Saddam to protect the Kurds, because as we are all aware, he gassed them back in the 80s.
-------------------- "In the United States anybody can be president. Thats the problem."
"The gray-haired douche bag, Barbara Bush, has a slogan: "Encourage your child to read every day." What she should be is encouraging children to question what they read every day."
"The agreement will almost certainly help the Turkish Government in its efforts to persuade parliament to send Turkish troops to help out the US-led coalition.

The US has been trying to get more foreign troops in to Iraq. this sounds like deal between the US and Turkey to get Turkish troops involved. of course, we had to sell out the Kurds in the process...
I offer my humble apologises for ressurecting a necro thread though I felt bitter at the misinformation.
I'd like to point a few things beforehand. Firstly I do not have any negative feelings against US citizens or the citizens of any country. I prefer to talk about governments, not people and secondly, I am not Turkish in blood, I am a Cypriot, more Greek, British, African, Sumerian than Turkish.
I'd like to point out the article, yes it is true that 30,000 people killed and most of them were civilians, the only thing that is omitted here is they have been killed by terrorist organisation called, PKK. It is also their daily routine to kill government officials such as teachers, bomb public places and threaten local population whom dare not to supply them. Kurds also actively "buy" and "sell" women, human trafficking.
Let me state some facts;
What Kurds are Really Doing
Most of the thieves, burglars, murderers are kurdish.
Yes, kurds are mostly poor but not because government denies of them anything but because they breed like rabbits, it is hard to finance your family when you have 14 children.
Most of the working class kurds choose occupations such as Mafia, burglary, gambling, slave trafficking, women trafficking and much more.
They have little to no social norms; a kurd may eat smelly food in a confined bus and if you warn him he will start to cry "Discriminatiooooon!"
Things Done in Order to Improve Lives of Kurds
Kurdish citizens have equal rights as any citizen of Turkish Republic.
Government actively tries to improve their local area with damns, improved agriculture, forcing teachers to serve 5 years in Eastern Turkey and trying to increase the education levels.
Culture of kurds isn't in any danger, they even have their special makam called Kurdili Hicazkar, their language and songs aren't in danger, well lets say as long as those songs contain words like "For free kurdistan, we kill for free kurdistan."
Another thing is their political wing called BDP actively works in favour of PKK to the point of protecting mass murderers whom planned bombings in public places.
Rights of Minorities and Citizens
As a citizen of Turkish Republic, I have the same rights as a kurd and I am also a minority, some of my Italian, Laz, Çerkez friends are also citizens and they are also minority. Under the light of that information;
All of those minorities have to speak Turkish in court.
All but kurds among those minorities rebelled and all other minorities are quite content with their life and as a matter of fact government favours kurds in natural disasters and they still cry out "discrimination!"
Proven that they are at poverty levels, all of the citizens have the right to ask for free health care, free education, government help in cash and in job search.
In recent earthquake in Van, kurds are given excessive amount of tents, food, clothing, water and other requisites at the same time another minority group received smaller amount of those requisites. The difference is, kurds stole from each other, sold the tents at black market and cried out "Discrimination! Government isn't looking after us!" The other minority group were interviewed just ONCE since media loves kurds hence they bring more rating, at that interview people just said "Long live government, they have given us food, clothing, tents, water in our time of need."
I'd like to make a few more points about historical misinformation;
There never WAS a genocide and occupation conducted by Turks in Cyprus, I am a Cypriot and three generations from my family fought at there among Turks. Children had been slaughtered, innocent women had been slaughtered in bath tub trying to hide from Greek soldiers. There was a genocide indeed but it was Turkish Genocide and Greek Occupation. I do not bear any ill feelings about my fellow Cypriot brothers and sisters, governments can be corrupted to the core.
There is this big so called Armenian Genocide lie, big fat lie. Lets assume Ottoman Empire truly tried to kill all Armenian, would they be able to kill 1,500,000 Armenian with less than 200,000 soldiers in poor condition? What happened at there was, with help of Russia, Armenian armed and tried to take over Adana, Ottomans forced them to migrate to another part of the empire. Think about it, if it were USA in place of Ottoman Empire, what would happen? What if Latin tried to create a rebellion in Canada? I doubt there will be any breathing Latin left.
There are a lot more to write but this migraine is killing me... Then again thanks for reading so far and no offence to anyone.
