Very nice finds Skinrar. I bet those pins have grown well in the last 6 days? Season is definitely under way. Finally got out for a hunt to check some spots. Found more subs growing in the pines but eucalyptus forests aren't far behind with many tiny pins starting to emerge from the undergrowth. Hopefully some more hunters will get out there. Look forward a tonne of pics coming in real soon
Some bell caps
Habitat shot
Some pins
Lots of hyphal knots

Hey guys,
I'm new to the forum, but live in the hills at Crafers and went out today down south. We tried our usual spot in the hills last weekend but just got some nice pine mushrooms for dinner. We're hoping to get some gold caps today but no luck.
After looking at what is listed on this site as available in SA, I'm thinking that we may have missed some opportunities. Looking at the pics on here I think we saw some gymnopilus purpuratus down south toward cape J, Will definitely post some pics on here to get advice on what I'm seeing out there. I think tomorrow will be an early morning trek to my usual gold cap spot and then around some other places I've had luck I the past.
Will post pics soon. So glad I found this forum... Wicked.

Awesome pics EBob! So it seems these finds are probably the first wild finds to get put up, yeah? The rest of the early finds seem to be garden beds or have irrigation in them so far.
I've found some more porcini and other good edibles lately but the subs will be everywhere soon I reckon.

Cheers Zed240 and yeah it looks like the other finds have been in mulched garden beds. Quietly jealous about your porcini finds! Have been on the hunt for them for the past two seasons. Found some lookalikes but never put in an ID request. That patch hasn't fruited this season yet.

Today's pics from a quick look around, nothing to pick but a few things to see! Apologies for the crappy phone quality - next time I'll remember fresh batteries for the camera. These are the (barely) passable ones:
Leratiomyces ceres
Psilocybe Subaeruginosa
Gymnopilus?

Great finds sausages. Good to see you're out hunting this year. The last pic appears to be Gymnopilus Junonius

Well I personally think that porcini is a lot harder to find than subs! I've spent a whole lot of time looking for Porcini without a great deal of results.
Here's some porcini pics from a find on 27/04 - my best find so far!
And in the below pic you can try and spot the porcini for yourselves. If you're nice I'll put a circle around it's location later.
And here's some other pics from 27/04 that aren't as exciting as porcini, but cool nonetheless. The ones in the middle pic are absolutely tiny, see the blades of grass for a size comparison. The caps were probably only about 3mm across.

I'm pretty happy with that i got them in the dryer at the moment. Good luck everyone for the season ahead My camera batteries went flat but i managed to get a picture plus i will take a photo of the haul later for those that don't believe :P Peace ☮

And these pics are from 01/05/2014
This guy was super blue!
A mini muscaria
suillus luteus growing right next to suillus granulatus. Lots of edibles around at the moment!
I'm a bit curious as to what the fruit body in the below pics is, this isn't a proper ID request but happy to hear thoughts. It's spore print was a dark yellow, found on dead pinus radiata stump.
Subs will be all about the place soon!

Good work Anon! Are you still hunting in the super deep south of SA or are these finds of yours a bit closer to Adelaide?

Cheers. I believe I was well within the rules with how vague I was in regards to locations. The rules do say "Specific locations". Saying something like deep south of a state our size isn't exactly "specific"!
Here's the rule below, it says even identifying an area within a couple of square KMs is ok! I'm pretty sure neither you nor I would get in trouble for what we just said.
7. No requesting or revealing specific locations. Use common sense about what might be considered a specific location. Anything that could lead someone right to the spot is not allowed - It is perfectly fine to mention places that are more than a couple square kilometers. When in doubt, do the moderators a favor and just don't say it.
Good luck for the rest of your season down there!

Hey Zed,
That white one could be Omphalotus nidiformis, maybe...
Nice pics everyone, I can't wait to get out and see some fungi. WA season shouldn't be far behind...

Hmm, I don't think so. The spore print wasn't white, was definitely dark yellow. But I've still got a fruit body, I'll check if it glows in the dark later!
I would like to find Omphalotus nidiformis one day though.
