Is this the official thread, cause I thought it needed to be started with an active find. I guess amanita is technically active, but not the illusive "edible gold" most peeps on here are hunting for. Good luck to all in SA for the coming season!

If you look back the last couple of years have been like this in SA so I'm guessing this thread will be the one for the season unless someone starts another with an active.

nice finds all, got me itching to get out for another hunt soon. Nice the see the slippery jacks out in numbers. Might be time to load up on some edibles.
Yeah we get the same question each season about whether this is the official thread. Usually turns out to be.

Yep, there are lots of slippery jacks and weeping boletes about. Some lactarius too amongst other things edible and otherwise.
Here are some pics from Friday 11/04
And found a boletus edulis too! Stoked!

And some more pics from today.
Check out the orange jelly fungus, it might be Dacrymyces palmatus? see my knife above it for a size comparison, it's tiny! Found one last year about 15 cm long but this is about 1.5cm long at the most.
This next one is really cool. If cut or damaged it turned bright blue straight away. Later the blue faded away. Yellow pores and the cap is slightly purple-ish. I've never seen one like it!
I twisted the stem off and you can see both bits went blue straigh away. I've also cut the cap too.
And this looks like it should almost be amanita muscaria but there was absolutely no remnants of the ovoid left on the car and it just doesn't seem like muscaria to me from it's other features. Hmmmm....
It's WAY too dry out there for the subs I reckon in a bunch of spots. C'mon rain and cold! Bring it on!

Morning everyone, I bring good news. Well for me anyway, In my area of the hills sub season is bursting into action. Went for a pedal yesterday and passing by a woodchip garden bed these caught my eye. First one small cluster of three beautiful coppercapped subs triggered my hunting instinct then more and more revealed themselves. I took the most mature and left the rest to drop their spores and rode home with an enormous grin
Dare I say first posted find of the season? Ok this is bad, tried to attach photos but after choosing the file I got redirected to a page that said "you have read only priveleges". Well now I might aswell be lying

Have you uploaded the pics to the Shroomery?
If you are logged in to the forum there is a link called "pics" at the very top left hand side of the page just under your username. Click that then upload. You should be able to post it then.
I'm keen to see what you've found!

They do appear to be Psilocybe subaeruginosa, or possibly Psilocybe cyanescens I suppose.

Nice to see this thread.... I've been noticing a few different things in pine forests.....
I think I might have something interesting first up ? is it a sub?
I saw so many of these - it's crazy - laughing gyms???
Saw a few Safron milk caps
I have no idea what this is either, but it looks good
happy hunting - can't wait till we actually get some wet and cold...

Your suspect boletus is definitely not an an edulis, (IMHO). Looks a lot more like a weeping bolete, (suillus granulatus) to me. There are lots of Suillus under pines at the moment.
