It's here folks, the mushroom season is under way. Thought I'd take the camera out and go for a hike in the forest. Fungi abound all around. Getting excited about the beginning of another awesome season. Hopefully be seeing some familiar hunters posting up again this season. The happy snaps from today to get things started

Yep, there's fungi about for sure!
Obviously waiting for the subs to pop up still, but at least there's stuff happening!
I'll throw a few of my pics up from the last couple of weeks too then shall I?
And for the hell of it I'll add one of my favourite finds from last year to whet peoples appetites for what's to come!

Good to see you've been on the hunt zed240 and nice shots. Did you pick the coprinus comatus? Gonna cook up some lactarius this season, tried eating them raw last season and threw up orange gunk. good party trick but figure they may taste better cooked. Hopefully the actives will be popping up not too far down the track.

Cheers Ericos_Bob, yours look great too!
No, I didn't take the coprinus comatus to eat, but I wish I had. I was pretty sure that's what they were when I found them but I had no phone service to check that I was right in my ID and I know I’ve read they only keep for an extremely limited time after picking. If I find them again I will try them though I think!
And I definitely recommend you cook up some nice fresh Lactarius as they taste great! I cooked them up a couple of times last year and I actually had my first meal with them for this year last night! I got some nice specimens on Saturday and cooked them up then added a cream cause and made some pasta with a little bit of chicken, was super good! I’ve never had them raw but they have a very nice texture and taste once cooked! Considerably better than the standard supermarket mushrooms.
Super keen for the actives too, (I assume most people here are too), fingers crossed I can find and post the first one of the season. Haha!

Lurker here. Got a good haul last season. And plenty of non-active pics as well as actives.
Looking forward to hunting and contributing this season though. Good finds.

Got a few more finds from today to post.
Gymnopilus Junonius?
Amanita Phalloides
Agaricus campestris or xanthodermus?
Amanita Muscaria
More Gymnopilus
Not sure, damned huge but reminds me of a Gym also...
Found some lactarius Deliciosus also but didn't bother taking pics.
Also found one tiny weeping bolete, picked it and it had the telltale white spots of juice on it's pores.
So it's starting to happen out there!

They look amazing! Some of the biggest I've ever seen!
I think if they were Omphalotus olivascens the caps would be much smoother...

also to determine between Agaricus campestris or xanthodermus try smelling it, and nicking the base of the stalk with your knife to look for yellow bruising and a strong hospital smell.

zed that is indeed an Amanita phalloides well done Amanita phalloides is quite synonymous with Quercus sp - Oak trees. also your Agaricus is a Agaricus xanthodermus the square caps on the juveniles and pink gills is a dead give away plus they're everywhere this time of year

Cheers Gnomes,
I've been lucky? (if you can call it that!?) enough to find Phalloides in at least 3 different places now! All with quercus robur. As far as I'm aware that's about the only tree they grow with here?
Anyway, here's some more pics from last night's very quick recon/hunt.
Including another patch of Phalloides, there were heaps of them there, it would be great place for a cult to have a mass suicide by amanita! hahaha!
Just found a few Gym pins and a patch of comatus coprinus too. There were about 6 comatus coprinus, I'll really have to take some home and eat them one day soon.
