Yeah Privet can get a pretty substantial trunk on them, and I've seen Morels growing mycorrhizal with them. About the white topped trees... Are you sure those aren't Sycamore? Also a host of Morchella.

I haven't had the best of luck under Sycamore, but that's probably because once I found a habitat that produced, then I pretty much stopped looking in all other habitats. It's funny because there are a lot of old-timers who are like, "Oh you need to be on a south facing slope with dead elms, sycamore, etc., gotta wear your lucky underwear, and accept the good Lord into your heart..." yadda yadda yadda, I'm just like, "Nah that's what you have to do."

Thats great lol. I have heard so many places to look now that I plan on just going out looking around everything lol. Im getting an early enough start. Its amazing I hadn't even heard of Morels until I heard deer hunters talking about them. They would say its like a race between you and the deer for the mushroom. Ive been playing in the woods all my life and hadn't seen any mushrooms that sparked my interest! So Ive yet to eat Morels also. Cant wait.

I FINALLY FOUND SOME!
:woooaaahhh:

they were growing right under the base of a wild privet by a big creek it was only 20-30 feet away from the creek, but you could see where it had washed out.

we hunted all day and only found two, so I guess we haven't gotten enough rain yet and the season is probably just starting.

we also found this cool variegated plant.

Looks cut! Is there someone else curious in your patch? Maybe they thought it was a false morel?

Trillium is an amazing plant! I remember reading it takes like 7 years to come back if you pick it. Also its illegal to pick in certain places. Shoot. Ginseng only takes two years to start growing lol. Its said Trillium makes for beautiful scenery while hunting Morels
