Georgia Morels
    #19715508 - 03/18/14 10:07 PM (7 months, 9 days ago)

Pretty sure the season is on. Going out hunting this week  What's the furthest eastern county you've found morels? I'm in Chatham county, so I'll be venturing out towards Statesboro. Not asking for specifics~

This will be my first GA Morel season as well... on mushroomobserver, you can look up morels by location. That could be very helpful

I was expecting to see morel pics :frown:
this thread is totally a tease.

Do morels even grow in south Georgia? I know florida doesn't have a morel season so i'd imagine they get less common the further south you go.

the season should start a little earlier where you are, it would be great if you could get the first finds of the season. I wanna start hunting but i'm waiting for other people to find some first. Hashfinger has some videos that show GA morel habitat really good, you should look for those.

then you can expect to see some GA morel pics from me very soon
I was wondering why there wasn't a Georgia morel thread yet.

Is that morel site still up? the one with the map that shows where they've been found throughout the year? I can't seem to find it.

Seriously I'm about to drive 11 hours back to my old patch! It won't be morel-time for another few weeks here in OH. Morels grow just about everywhere. Get out there and cover ground. They'll be right under your nose when you find them. Remember, lots of people who find mushrooms don't post about it online. Don't follow the maps, just follow your instincts! And like I said, get out there and HUNT HUNT HUNT! All the walking is good for the buns and thighs.

Yeah that does suck about florida... At least you have wonderful cow fields and beautiful beaches.

And Alan, it is true. The morel season is definitely on here. In fact, it rained a plenty all weekend, so next week should be even better. Making a trip out to the Atlanta area this weekend and over to Chattanooga. BTW, I watched one of your lectures online the other day. Awesome stuff, man.

I would like to check the Statesboro area first, though. I know they grow around Macon, but even closer to home would be great. Will report back here later about it~

Going to patches again today but I think this last cold shocked them a little and they might just be coming up slow here in my area. I usually would have found some by now.
