I think it's amazing how similar kiwi's are to mammals, they seem more mammalian than avian. Convergent evolution is amazing, everything about nature is amazing, I'm just too much of a dumb-ape to comprehend it.

Yes, we are dumb apes and act as such, which is why we need to evolve, and our little fungi friends are just the thing for it.
They can help remind us and allow us to see what we really are and should be (in big enough doses).

Is this active? if so this is my first find.
Yes! I think it's probably Psilocybe subaeruginosa, find more, one won't do anything to you.

I've seen subs do some weird shit man, looking exactly like various other woodlovers we don't get here. Some that had very thin, tough woody stems and slotted their wavy folded caps between fence pailings, other growing in a localised garden of only Japanese flora, so tall and flawless and perfectly circular.. And POTENT.. Christchurch was such a beautiful town pre-earthquakes.. Many areas of town I've basically written off now because it's so filthy.. Excited to see all these Subsects though as they're relatively new to me, experienced some brought down from the north island last year but never picked them. Aye, she be a sodden city...

Looks like it, but is not a subaeruginosa.

Found a nice big patch of subs today. Picked about two handfuls fresh caps, left as many if not more pins intact.
Also, there seems to be a really tricky lookalike species around. When they're young, they look like tall subs with convex, paler caps and light beige gills blocked by a partial veil. When they're older, they're much bigger, with a wavy cap like subs, but diameter 8-10cm, and with a ring on the stipe. The stem is generally thicker, 5-10mm, and it does not bruise blue. Found growing in woodchip, out of the sun.
No camera, so can't take pictures, but any idea what it could be from the description? I'm thinking Galerina marinata, but the pictures online make the cap look far darker than the mushrooms I've found. The color looked far more like this picture of P. ovoideocystidiata (I know that it can't have been this species due to location, but the color was similar).
Any ideas as to what it could be?

Have been finding what appear to be red Weraroas, often located near the non-red Weraroas, are these mushrooms psychoative, and if they aren't the red version of Weraroa what are they? Can provide a picture next time I see them. Much love, Mikey .
