I'm playing Metro: Last light right now and it is amazing for its horror immersion. They love to put me in dark dank radiation soaked tunnels with crazy monster noises sskurring and running in tunnels around and above you, and REALLY make it build before they jump out and attack you. Gah! I've jumped out of my computer chair a few times.

I just beat Farcry 3. Talk about immersion, man! It gets really intense at some parts. I especially liked the knife fights.

This game pisses me off a lot to. They are a bitch with giving me enough damn filters when I get stuck outside fighting ungodly amounts of crap. :/ I die so much on those outside levels.

Amnesia: The Dark Descent.
Play it in the dark by yourself with headphones. Scariest fucking game ever. About halfway through you kinda get used to it and it just turns into a puzzle game, but man...when you're first getting your bearings you will be psychologically terrified.

I thought Dishonored was incredibly immersive, and the art direction and music were fantastic.

Yeah STALKER is a great game, still one of the scariest games I've played too.

The obvious have been said. I think bioshock (especially infinite) does a good job at it. And mass effect is practically like playing an incredibly good in depth sci fi film. The fable series drew me in quite a bit (haven't played the third and don't really plan to)

Oh and while it's dated silent hill 2 really draws me in. It's my favorite horror game to date. The music and story is amazing. The atmosphere is unmatched as far as I'm concerned in terms of creepyness

Fable 3 is worth playing. I like Fable 2 better, I think, but I'm sure it's in the bargain bin by now.

Mass effect hands down IMO. Great game easy to grasp but very deep and detailed universe.

I'll try it someday probably. It bugged me that they made the hero speak though. Fable 1 is my all time favorite though

Yeah I have such great memories of Fable 1. I didn't play 2, but 3 was really boring for me, it just felt way too easy.
I've been playing Spelunky a lot lately. It reminds me of a platformer crossed with poker. Every time you play you learn something new for your next playthrough. Although the difficulty is brutal, it controls so well and is so satisfying I never get truly frustrated at it.

Fallout 3 does an amazon job of drawing you in from the get go simply because you literally start from birth. I thought that was really cool. So I felt I should mention it :p
