you just admitted it yourself. taking too much E can be unhealthy for you. The fact is, there is only a limited production of serotonin. Some people will be perfectly fine after a year of weekly pill taking simply because of brain chemistry. They have less rate-limiting enzymes for serotonin, and a longer period of time in which they can produce serotonin. People have different brain chemistry. People react differently to drugs. What made one person depressed might be alright for another person. Although I totally agree the social consequences are gonna get to you faster than the health ones. Regardless though, irresponsible and premature ecstasy use doesn't necessarily lead to a better outlook on life. I think it depends more on set/setting, although even if you have a bad mindset, ecstasy can help you very much. It's just that ecstasy can also plunge you into a world of self-manipulation, if only because of an addictive personality (Take that from me ;-) )
I'm curious as to the details of serotonin production, and when it ends. Anybody know anything about this?

entiformatie -- your summary of MDMA's effects and potentials is absolutely accurate, pardon some of the terminology. You've got the picture very well.
MDMA can cause over-exictiation of 5-HT neurons, which can cause them to cease to temporarily their functions. This is called receptor down-regulation. A neuron which finds itself over-exerted will retract from the synapse and remain quiet for some time. A down-regulated receptor will not produce serotonin. The presence of more MDMA in the days and weeks after down-regulation will disallow the neuron to restore it's function. Eventually it will die.
In cases like these, the introduction of 5-HTP, ALA, and even fluoxetine will not block depressive effects which arise from serotonin depletion with excessive MDMA use.

so is the general concensus that, if the correct preventative measures are taken, and extreme moderation is practiced, very very rare use of MDMA can be ok?

why thank you :-)
and yes, mdma is safe if used very moderately. typical recommendations seem to be 1 1/2 to 2 months, i suggest 3, because everybody is different, and sobriety is a good way to integrate drug experiences into sober life.
one idea tho, take 5htp, before and after, and maybe even during your roll. 5htp is a precursor for serotonin, sold at most GNC stores

Ive been on MDMA for less than a year now, taking it every weekend (almost religiously) probably around 30 pills in 3 days, up to 12 pills a night + coke and shrooms (Friday-Sunday). While I did notice a huge increase in tolerance (on a few occasions I took good amount of decent pills but did not get any great effect, it kept me awake, but I werent high at all), I did not notice any great mental handicap - I get days of pure apathy, some where memory goes a little bad and a few moodswings, but nothing that cant be controled. I think theres a lot of anti-MDMA propaganda out there, or maybe I just didnt come across any people with any major damage from it (I think more chronic weed smokers are way more retarded than MDMA users).

IMO moderation is the key!!!
you eat to much you get fat
you work to much you get tired
you smoke to many cigs you get cancer
you take to much x you lose its magic and suffer from the ill effects (all discussed in this thread already)
p.s. you can smoke as much weed as you want tho!!!

I wish i had another off white omega that i could carry around as a reminder of my first roll. Its not the pretties ecstasy pill out there but its the absolute most beautiful thing to me!
