I like doing popcorn casings. They are fast and yields are acceptable. On the other hand, I suspect popcorn grown shrooms to be less potent than BRF grown shrooms.
I was thinking of using a mix of popcorn and Whole Brown Rice as a substrate (let say 2/3 popcorn and 1/3 Brown Rice). This substrate should still promote fast colonization time with possibly the advantage of using the extra nutrients of the Brown Rice.
I'm ready to try it but I was wondering how I should prepare my substrate. Should I soak the Rice in water for 24 hours, just like the popcorn? Or it's ok to simply add dry Rice in the jars and then PC em..
1- Whole brown rice + popcorn 2- Whole brown rice + verm + popcorn.
My suspicions on a decrease in potency are not very solid yet. I only know that I went very high a couple of times with BRF grown Tapalpas (3g) but had very subtile effects with popcorn grown Equadors with 2g (tried it a couple of times. Never did 3g with these ones).
I know it proves nothing. Could be the dose, the strain or the substrate. EQs are known to be quite potent. Based on the subtile effects of a 2g dose, I highly doubt it will get much more intense at 3g. Still have to try it.
So in the meantime, I wanna try a popcorn - whole brown rice substrate.
