Hello everyone, this will kinda be my first time growing shrooms. I have little experience the last time i tried growing them i ended up moving to a new state but! After settling down i figured im ready to try again. I will be using the pf tek method but this time i have 10 inoculated jars and hopefully will have a nice harvest. I got my syringe Wednesday inoculated the same night so far everything is looking surprisingly great! After only four days to my suprise the jars started showing mycelium the size of silver dollars! Ill keep this thread updated wish me luck!
5 days after inoc. http://tinypic.com/r/28mpav4/5 Posting on my phone so having issues trying to upload pics directly towards the forums

GT is not a strain, it is a variety.
There is no variety of cube that is any more noob friendly than any other.
Cubes are cubes.....they are all essentially the same.

Look at the big sticky at the top. You'll find tons of bad info on here such as using incubators, non-sterile procedures the works. I literally went through a vendor's catalog and saw no differences in potency or size to speak of.
There are different variations of psilocybe mushrooms, but not of cubensis - these are generally named for where they are found or who discovered them; but in the end you grown them all under the same conditions you will have very similar crops regardless of the hype.

People often refer to them as strains, but they really are not. As time goes by, you will be able to recognize who to listen to and who not.
Your more likely to succeed if you listen to trusted cultivators.
If you fruited GT, Ecuador, Koh Samui, B , or whatever "strain", you would not be able to i.d. them without tracking with labels from the beginning.
Although there is no real harm in saying or thinking it's a "strain", I would not put a lot of faith in the words of those who still call it that.

It is a strain, I don't care who the {Expletive} says otherwise. Its like a race, right me and Tbag are both Homo-sapiens, but he is probably white, and I am probably not as white. Strain, Race, Who gives a fuck we are all talking about Cubies for the most part. If someone isn't than they will probably say so.
Reason for Edit: So I am rereading my posts from last night, I was drunk. I have given the exact opposite post in the other direction before. I guess I just felt like arguing with someone LOL. Anyway, Good times! Thanks, I love my GT strain! I mean race!

I'm just gonna quote wiki since it was well formulated there;
While biologists sometimes use the concept of race to make distinctions among fuzzy sets of traits, others in the scientific community suggest that the idea of race often is used in a naive or simplistic way, i.e. that among humans, race has no taxonomic significance: all living humans belong to the same species, Homo sapiens and subspecies, Homo sapiens sapiens.
So yeah, a "race (human)" and a "strain (mushroom)" may have some similarities... in the sense that they are both pretty fuckin' useless denotations, which are overlapped by more correct and specific scientific classifications which we should probably be using instead.
=P
Edit: poor form to quote without link to source, sorry. Wiki: Race (human classification)

http://www.shroomery.org/5122/The-Shroomery-Mushroom-Glossary
Strain - A genetic line considered to have common traits, usually identified for artificial selection by humans. Many strains have geographical names (e.g. Ecuador, Texan, Aussie), but point of natural origin is not necessarily the source of the name. Remember that strains are a human notion; vendors often differentiate between stocks that are not visibly different to everyone, but which have been perceived to have different characteristics, whether visual (e.g. the Penis Envy strain), chemical (as in strains perceived to have high potency), or behavioral (relating to the mushroom's response to environment, colonization speed, et cetera).
What traits do B+ have that separate it from GT? None that I'm aware of.

DC2,
Once the jars are 100% colonized, and you're doing BRF cakes, it's written that they should remain in the jars, consolidating for another week.
When my jars hit their 100%, I dry-erased the date 7 days out on their lids, so Id know when their birthdays were supposed to be.
Then, after consolidation, do the dunk (24 hours) and roll (vermiculite).
Ive read for 2nd and 3rd flushes, that a lot of people dont do the roll, but still dunk to replenish lost water.
Ill have more experience with that when I get to my 2nd flush.

Oh okay thats probably what i read too about the whole second flush no roll and confused it for the birth. These cakes are colonizing fast!

MS is one big crapshoot....no way to know what will happen.
A rough estimate would be 1-6 grams per flush per cake.

It looks like those 2 are done. I wouldn't risk keeping them around your grow area, but if you want to try isolating them and see what happens... you may get lucky.
Personally, I'd bury them outside. Dont open them inside

Oh ok. For some reason it didn't look like it to me. Did your dry verm layer get damp?
This can happen if you leave foil or tape over the top holes very long after steaming or pc

Im pretty new, myself. When I encountered my first contam, the guys helping me along said it is best to get the contaminated jar as far away as possible.
Spores from contamination are sticky and can really fuck up a grow spot.
Ive only lost about 7, which was not bad at all, relatively speaking.
