Caerulipes can be found in Ohio. It's a lignicolous species, which means it grows from/on wood substrates. It doesn't grow from dung.
You'll need to do a search to find out any info or pics. Although it's a widespread species in the eastern US, it's not commonly found. At least
very few here at the Shroomery have been able to find it anyway.Good luck, get a camera, and get us some pics.

has any one around here found active mushrooms in ohio or anywhere around the same basic region? if so , in what kind of conditions? i know i should be mostly looking in woodchips, but is it even worth my time in ohio? I guess i am just wondering if i should give up on the actives.

Panaeolus subbalteatus is probably your best bet for ohio.

In trhe northern half of the USA the Panaeolus subbalteratus is a spring and fall mushroom appearing after the first couple of heavy spring and/or fall rains.

AS for P. caerulipes I and a few others have posted images of them here and they can be found in the search engines.

The season for P. caeulipes is from june-the end of August with maybe a small trail innto October. It is a summer mushroom and can be found in mulched gardens in public places or in gardens at rich landscaped homes in their gardenbeds.

mj. IT is estemeley rare in the wild.

that site has a bad set of meta tags as it only appears when very specific keywords are put in, i came across it yesterday and could not find it again today (thaks for the link  ) but yes, it is a greatsite.

Not sure where you were searching for shrooms, maybe in your closet or basement?

There are several articles on how to find and Identify Panaeolus subbalteatus right here at the Shroomery.

As for the Gymnopilus species. G GreatOne234 has posted numerous threads of Gyms he collected in Florida which are found in other states in the USA. You must not have done a lot of searching. Even Google will open,

Close Encounters of the Panaeolus Kind. It is on about ten different websites on the www.

This one came from goggle at number 1 on the subject.

http://www.erowid.org/plants/mushrooms/mushrooms_article1.shtml

mj

Regarding P. caerulipes.

So far about 99.999% of the P. caerulipes collected in Ohio are actually a new species described as P. ovoideocystidiata and that paper can also be googled to the article posted here and at other sites.

And any post by ShroomyDan, Falcon and Mushmaster will also bring up that mushroom. HEre at this site.

You really did not search for very much of anything if yo could not have found these sites/

Blue-foot season is pretty much over bud, sorry. The best place to look is in a floodplainish area where there is some sort of river or steam somewhere nearby.
