just got my kratom plant
    #18374812 - 06/05/13 08:41 PM (10 years, 10 months ago)

so just got my Kratom cutting in the mail, took 8 days to get here (even though it was priority) and still looks good... I got it from one of my favorite sponsors and they took great care of me, I will continue doing business with them and enjoy their services completely...

but to the main subject, what have you guys found are the most important factors with growing this plant into a BEAST?

That's awesome. Keep us updated.
I plan on ordering a few kratom seeds when I order my cactus seeds.
I have yet to consume kratom and will feel good about it if I grow it myself.

Kratom enjoys lots of light so if you can put it outside you should. Acclimatise it slowly though, its been in a box for over a week. In the warm months it can take a lot of water and prefers constant moist soil, it's from a swampy part of the world originally. It enjoys regular fertiliser, always organic.

In the cooler winter season it can drop its leaves and enter dormancy.

Once that plant gets established it should put on some good growth. They're an easy plant and only aphids, scale and caterpillars seem to bother it. These are dealt with quite easily.

Im not an expert but from what i read kratom likes to have well draining soil a good ph of about 5.5-6.5 i think. The bigger the pot helps it to grow bigger. Needs humidity so a humidfier is good. If you dont have one you can have it sit above some water..not in the water! Kratoms love light. I would suggest if you could to give it light all day or as much as you can...i know those bills can be pricey. Water frequently. When the top of the soil starts to dry up get her wet again.

Anyways beautiful looking plant bro.

No humidifier. It grows fine in 40-50% RH.

Its from Thailand where it grows in a high humidity  enviornment.  Why would you say no humidifier karode? I only ask because usually growing indoors seem to be dry so if it was then a humidifier or other source would be better for it wouldnt it?

Because I've never heard or seen anyone using one. I've also seen them grow in real life in the harsh non tropical Australian Summer(38C+ weather). We also have a member here who grows it in extreme Texas conditions. Richard(the plant) loves Texas.

While it may be from a tropical climate, humidity isn't really a factor.

Ahhh i see.  Well if it does well in austrailia then i guess humidity isnt a big factor.
Im from texas and the eastern part has humid. I dont know what part Rrichard stays in but if he stays in the part where theres humidity maybe thats why they are loving the texas weather.  I dont know maybe its worth looking into. But im pretty sure you know what your talking about and humidity probally isnt a big deal.

There is a VERY nice specimen at one of the local nurseries here in my area of texas as well. In a greenhouse with no humidifier. Extreme heat and dry weather plague this area most of the year.

It depends on the strain, but generally they will adapt to low humidity conditions.

The best strain at adapting to lower humidity, and the very same one that I gave ferrel_human a clone of that he now grows in dry-ass Texas, is Rifat strain. It seems to definitely be the best at adapting to lower humidity conditions.

I still make sure I spray mine down 1-2 times a day and they really seem to grow much better because of it.

They LOVE high amounts of organic nutrients in their soil. I use a lot of worm castings on them, blood meal, coffee grounds, stuff like that. Every single time I dig some organic nutes into their soil I notice new, more vigorous growth.

As others said, keep the soil moist and use organic nutes.
If you take care of it, it'll grow incredibly fast.
This plant was a month old from a cutting:

And this is the same guy just a little over 3 months later:

I'm in colorado so it's pretty arid here, so I'm glad it isn't a major factor... I have fish bone meal I plan on using along with molasses and coffee grounds, I'm really looking to get it outside but it gets down to the 50's at night still... would this kill it like I been told?

50's? Nah, definitely not man. It gets into the 40's a least a couple of days a year, even here in Socal and I never bring mine in or take any measures at all, they're always fine.
