The rocks are really not porous enough and wouldn't allow for the air to travel through, thus not allowing for a high enough rh.

Magash, I'm using the hydroton in a rubbermaid with two bubble wands.  The hydroton is about 2 1/4 inches deep and the water is an inch from the top. It's bubbling like crazy but the rh won't go over 82%.  What do you think?

Are there any holes or opening or anywhere where air can get out of your terrarium? You might wanna check on the inside where the handles are because sometimes there are holes there....try to seal the container as much as possible...tho you will need some holes for air release...hmmm...maybe add some more water...AFOAF has the water to where they can see it comming through the pebbles...and his results have been astronomic and rh has been 95%-100%.

Worst comes to worst your rh will be 82%...that aint exactly bad.

Good Luck.

Could you use lava rocks for land scaping if you just broke them down to a useable size?

Bell Cloche Pod for about $30

I know the cloche is overkill for the schematics of the pod but isn't presentation everything (your friends will think your fuckin Bill Nye)!

Anyway back to the construction, Magash has revealed the guts of the rich man's pod at the begginning of this post, but his parts require ordering online. So I have come up with a poor pod (I like to say bubble pod) that cab be constructed (w/ exception of bell cloche) from parts found at your neighborhood Wally World for about $30.

List:

1.) Bell Cloche 14" - $10

2.) Base = (14" plant saucer, hard plastic, found garden in dep.) - $3

3.) Air Pump & Tubing = (5 gallon aquarium pump, fish dep.) -$7

4.) Medium = (Perlite, garden dep.) - $3

5.) Airstone = (-2- 5" stones, fish dep.) - $6

6.) Seal = (padded double sticky tape & bolts/wing nuts) - $5

This should just about cover it, and if you want to bring the price down a bit, you can swap the barcodes on similiar but cheaper items they cashiers never know). That's it, and I will post some picks tommorow hopefully of the finished product all put together with the shroomies intact (too late to fuck with right now)!

Hope this helps, Later!

Yes you can. In fact lava rock works great. Both the red ones and the black ones work fine. I've even seen broken up bricks work fine.

You could use hydroton (at hydroponics store) or even small sized lava rocks (rinse off dust).
