I just attempted my first lc today. I did it from a clone, but I imagine it's the exact same if you use spores. Seems to me cloning would make the most sense for us beginners to get a decent strain. Hope it works out, I shall know in a few days. (I did a few just to be safe) http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/5874305/fpart/1/vc/1

Day 17 Post Inoculation: 6 Jars or so are 100% colonized. Today I purchased all the supplies for and constructed several varieties of Liquid Culture Jar Lids. I am excited to test each model out.

I am curious which side of the Cake will be the "top" when it is in the Fruiting Chamber? Should I use the end from the lid end of the jar, or the bottom?

That's a good point.. are cakes supposed to be fruited with the side towards the lid, up?

i fruit mine the same way they colonized just because in nature mycelium uses gravity to tell it which direction to go.(i presume) but theres no problem fruiting them the otherway unless you have pins already and even thats not a problem just upside down mushrooms. they also sit better verm side up(most of the time)

My miracle Grow Perlite is maintaining a 91-93% humidity. Is this going to be okay for fruiting? Are the random brown and black chunks in the perlite going to be a danger? I purchased some other perlite from Pikes today that is just perlite...should I change it out or take my chances with the MG?

Just a quick couple things I pulled from the last 30 some posts....
1. DO NOT colonize with tinfoil on your jars. It takes longer and you're restricting GE!
2. Let consolidate for at least a week after 100%! Settle down and learn some patience as if you birth sooner, your cake(s) will not pin any faster!
3. Learn patience!! When you're freaking out about wanting to get started etc, just start more projects and build new/more sgfc or monos etc...
4. Seriously, learn some patience!!

To curb my anxiousness of my upcoming fruiting, I have decided to embark on my first Liquid Culture trial. I am going with water and honey, and I have constructed three different types of Liquid Culture Jar lids, and here they are:
The one on the left has a self healing injection port (SHIP), that I handmade with RTV High Temp Silicon Gasket Maker, and a Homemade Gas Exchange filter that is made from a brass plumbing insert (crimped and filled with a cotton filter) the insert has been gasketed to the lid and then covered with tyvek and medical cloth tape.
The Next lid has a SHIP and a taped on Tyvek filter over a gas exchange hole.
The third lid has a SHIP and a Gasketed on tyvek filter.
I hope at least one these works out. Go they look okay to you guys? (experienced cultivators)

they all sound like they should work... I used to just put 3 layers of micropore tape over all 4 holes of a regular pf jar lid and go from there. But you have a nice setup it seams :-)
so now go knock up your honey LC (I loved using honey when I did LCs, good choice IMO) and then in a couple weeks test out each LC you've made on a PF jar. I wouldn't do more than 1 test jar (per LC) at a time until you've waited a week to check for contams

My Liquid Culture Jars have been sterilized and cooled and are minutes away from inoculation! Hoping all goes well! Taking all the precautions of my first PF Tek Inoculation which was 100% successful and contam free.

Day 19 Post Inoculation. I am officially calling today day number 1 of Consolidation. A week from today all my jars will have been 100% colonized for at least a week. To curb my anxiousness and give myself something new to observe, I inoculated three liquid culture jars today, each with a different style of LC Jar Lid. I am hoping at least one of the three come out contamination free. I used a PC to sterilize them and inoculated them in a SAB under very sanitary conditions. My goal is to prepare liquid culture syringes for repeating the PF Tek

Day 20 Post Inoculation:
All 12 of my first ever PF Tek BRF Jars have reached 100% Colonization, and they are all contamination free entering the first official day of consolidation. The fastest of the jars have already been consolidating for 5 days. I feel very excited, these next seven days can't go by fast enough.
As for the three liquid cultures I inoculated yesterday, two of them have shown what i think is some pretty radical progress in 24 hours: Here are pictures of them:
You might not be able to tell from the poor quality pics, but the middle jar (SHIP with gasketed on Tyvek filter) is much darker than the other two. The other two have transformed from the dark amber to green yellow! What do you all think?

Did you use 2cc of your spore solution to inoculate your LC's? Just wondering, because we're on the same LC timescale, and I can't really see into my jar. :P

I used about 1cc in each jar.
