    #17797282 - 02/13/13 07:18 PM (11 years, 1 month ago)

thinking about buying a sizable amount of seed here in the next bit, probably retusus and fissuratus.

Let me know why YOU are attracted to the different species of the genus ariocarpus.

Retusus are boring imo but get what you want

A.Bravoanus because the flowers are divine.
Retusus are a bit boring compared to, though still intriguing geometry none the less.
A.scapharostrus because once again the flowers are nice and theyre just out there.
A.kotschoubeyanus would have to be my fav though, check em out

I'm close to giving up on this species since I can't seem to get seeds to germinate. Ariocarpus Fissuratus is my favorite especially older specimens they look like fossils and have some nice flowers.

Dude your seed must be shit cause I've grown from seed many times and i just sowed like lophs and i have a higher rate with ario than loph seeds.
And not to upset you but ariocarpus look so cool as a seedling! i would go as far as saying they look better as a seedling than and adult

I just picked up some A. fissuratus seeds from an excellent US vendor
and have over 50% germinated so far, and I'm expecting there will be a
few more that pop up in the near future.  Quite a good germ rate, but
surprisingly, low compared to the Aztekium seeds I also received.

Relevant to the OP, I like the genus of Ariocarpus because it
consists of slow growers that won't take over my limited space too
quickly. And A. fissuratus specifically because it sort of looks like
old, wrinkled vaginas with a spot of white fuzz.

Oh man, those will look amazing! :psychsplit:
I like retususes, they're all woolly and spiky and shit! And they can get huge!
And have lots of great variants within the species!
I've sown trigonus, retusus open polinated varieties, kotschubeyanus albiflorus and a couple of mixed species seeds this season. In all, I think I'd have to say Ariocarpus is my favorite genus.
