Blue Oyster Grow Log (First Timer)

My first attempt to grow mushrooms will begin sometime this week. My order of 1 Blue Oyster Syringe is on it's way from www.spores101.com. I've purchased the correct 1/2 pint jars, perlite, vermiculite, 91% alcohol to help sterilize, etc. For my fruiting chamber I bought a 60 QT plastic storage box. I will make my own inoculation chamber from a cardboard moving box. I'm yet to buy disposable latex gloves but I figure I should. I have a good feeling that I am well on my way to a successful PF Tek grow. Any suggestions for a new beginner? Anything I should think about or start to prepare before the spores arrive? I'll be sure to post pics as soon as there are any worth posting.
EDIT I received an e-mail from a Spores101 representative this morning. Blue Oyster is currently out of stock. I guess I ordered it before they noticed. They kindly offered to replace my order but I am a n00b and told them to just select an appropriate culture for me. I guess I'll just wait it out!
EDIT Everythings all set with Spores101 my syringe should be coming in a couple days. I went ahead and made my glovebox today out of a cardboard box. What do you guys think?

Oysters require alot more FAE than cubes do for fruiting, make sure you deal with that or youll get oysters with long stems and tiny caps, the colder to you fruit them the thicker the cap is generally speaking, and in my personal experience with Blues...a real strong light source will make a darker cap...almost blue/black....a more diffuse light source will make them develop a slate blue/grey cap. good luck! Ive had some success making Pf style cakes an dicing them with a clean knife , then innoculating straw...its not as elegant as making grain spawn but it did work. The blue oysters in my avatar pic were grown this way. Have fun! look forward to seeing some pics of your grow!

so do you think i should leave the cover off of my fruiting chamber to allow for more fresh air or drill a lot of holes in it? what do you think?

last winter i tried doing straw bags of blue oysters in a greenhouse with a shroud...typical of what you see in threads here....I could get the RH up fine, but had to leave the zippers on the door of the greenhouse undone to get fresh air in....which made the RH plummet in the dry winter air...it was a constant battle. If youre going to go with passive air exchange you will need to experiment with how many holes you need to make in your fruiting chamber. I tried fruiting oyster cakes in a typical perlite tub situation and even with fanning they grew small caps and long stems. good luck with whatever system you come up with

Just heard back from Spores101. They replaced my order with Yellow Oyster so I guess the spores will be arriving in a few days. The log will begin shortly!

If you become annoyed with the wait and can afford shipping, I can ship you out some spawn. PM me if you don't receive a viable culture from Spores101. I have had a terrible experience with them. Just lookin out for another brother

Inoculated my jars today. They are sitting in my closet which is dark and warm. I messed up soooo many times during the process hehe, but I think I was fairly sterile for the most part. We'll see in a few days!

Well, my first batch failed as you all know. I just inoculated 5 more after eliminating a couple of variables that I thought could have been responsible for my last failure. So it's been 5 days since I inoculated my jars with Yellow Oyster spores. No signs of mycelium yet (one sign of possible contam.) This time I didn't put any tape over the holes when I sterilized, could that be a problem? I also didn't flame sterilize my needle, I just rubbed it down with alcohol. ANY suggestions at all would be GREATLY appreciated. I'm at a complete loss as to why my jars aren't showing growth.
BTW - I don't have a PC I use a pot with boiling water.
could it be bad spores?
