Thought Loops
    #17537963 - 01/12/13 04:29 PM (1 year, 3 months ago)

Anyone else get a lot of 'thought loops' when they smoke weed? It tends to kind of be a buzz kill for me, because I am always thinking about negative things, like my life and what I need to improve on (I guess this isn't the worst scenario), or a particular moment during the day/ encounter with someone that didn't go so well. I'm calling it a thought loop because the scenario will keep repeating in my head until I'm able to snap out of it.

I'm not sure why but it's just been happening to me a lot lately, like I'll be smoking a blunt with a friend and were having normal conversation and all of a sudden I just zone out and the back of my mind starts thinking about something I regret doing or something similar and I'll completely lose track of what me and a friend were talking about. Then all of a sudden I'll feel really down for the rest of the high.

I'm not really sure if this is a sign of depression or anything. Anyone have this problem? Or does anyone have any advice to give to keep my mind on a positive high. Sometimes its like in and out highs and lows with my high and I end up with a headache towards the comedown...

:feelsbadman:

may just have to take a t-break or something... idk

I have no good advice on them but I have the same experiences. Mine started happening to me after I started smoking again after I got off a med a doctor prescribed me. I can never get out of those negative loops when I'm high so I have stopped smoking all together. I have never figured out the reason for it other than possible depression or a change in brain chemistry from the meds themselves good luck with getting into a positive thought space though.

I'm glad I'm not the only one. May I ask what you are prescribed? I used to be prescribed vyvanse and adderall. Haven't taken them for a year but I am going to start again.

I get thought loops quite a lot; I do have depression and anxiety but I am not sure if they are related. I've had those issues for as long as I remember, and weed wasn't always like this. Personally I have noticed the loops more after I have started using psychedelics.
I find that meditating and clearing my mind before smoking helps a lot. While I still get thought loops, they aren't as negative. But then, when I smoke I am generally alone, so that is more conducive to meditation.
T-break could help, only way to find out is to try. Hope you can figure it out.

Meditation practice has helped me tremendously with things like this.

What many people don't realize is that for the vast majority of people, these thought loops are always going on, but on a more subtle level. This is one of the greater lessons psychedelics have for us IMO It's often that they get magnified by psychedelics to the point that they become more obvious and bothersome.

Sit for a while in silent meditation and attempt to calm your mind. You'll see what I mean. It's exercise.

you are trying to use cannabis as an escapist drug. Its as simple as that. It is bringing stuff you need to be aware of, give expression to, and resolve to the surface, and you want to always have a 'positive buzz high'. Well life aint like that. There are always highs and lows, and the more you tryand escape the lows the more it builds up and up. This is the core of addiction when people take more and more of whatever shit they is using to escape to try and prevent all the negative stuff that needs dealing with. Even such stuff like eating, work, hoarding, buying shit--it is all when done neurotically trying to suppress what your really feeling.
thers no such thing as always maintaining a positive high

Never thought of it this way, thanks for the feedback . There actually is a lot I can be improving with my life right now that I really need to start doing. I wouldn't say I smoke weed all the time to escape negative things in my life, but many times I view it that way, and almost every time I'm in a bad mood, or something bad happens I pick up a sack...

coping habits that involve cannibis use
habits within habits attempting to evade issues
side tripping out in habituated directions
self recrimination habits triggered by side trips
loopy looping because it is a habit to loopy loop

like ocd but not necessarily ocd.

since when has thinking been a bad thing?
loop yourself on that one for a while.
everyone has happy thoughts
everyone has sad thoughts
the fact we can have thoughts at all is really quite incredible.
your mind is trying to tell you something.
listen in once in a while.

thought loops I would say is a symptom more indicative of schizophrenia than anxiety or depression... schizophrenia is IMO a brain sensitive to the other side more so than a normal brain, hence voices. but I wouldn't worry about it your just high brother
