Habitat:
Where does it grow? Eg. woods, pasture, state, province, country, altitude, etc. What does it grow on? Eg. soil, dung, wood (dead, living, what kind of wood?), etc.
growing in woods near a spring. I believe on soil.

Gills:
Color, attached/not, gills/pores, etc.
I'm not very comfortable saying due to my ultra colorblindness:(
Stem:
Length, diameter, color, texture, hollow/solid, thin/thick, etc.
pretty tall, about a half inch, off white? smoth kind of fibrous hollow.
Cap:
Diameter, color, texture, conical/spherical, convex/concave, etc.

Spore print color:
Very important!

Bruising:
Color that the mushroom bruises, if any.

Other information:
Scent of the mushroom, anything else you think is important, large close-up pictures showing stem, cap and gills.

I've been finding A. mellea fruiting in large numbers this week. I've never eaten them.

Yea, they are edible and good.  Especially the caps, stems are tough.

Cook them well and eat a small bit at first in case you are allergic to them.

I wonder why it says caution.  I read someone else say the stems can tear your gut/intestines up a little, maybe that's what they mean.

Another person suggested "french frying" the stems.

yeah my field guide says it can just react differently/ bad with some people. I'd say that's just a heads up to people with weak stomachs.

Separate the caps from the stems (cook the stems separately as french fries), slice into quarter inch sections.  Heat a pan with oil or butter, when the oil is hot but not yet smoking throw the mushrooms in.  Saute for about 12-15 minutes on medium high heat until most surfaces are browned.

Add salt and pepper.

Use the sauteed mushrooms as an ingredient in something else, or as a side dish at dinner.

You could rig up some stuffed mushrooms with the caps, they make nice little cups.  I might give that a go next time I see some fresh ones, all the ones around my place are busted now:sad: but we should get some rain in the next few days going by the weather report:grin:
