There are tons of great Christians, I know because I've met them. Plus it's a large part of the culture of a lot of places. Ireland for example, or Mexico. Yeah, there is the spreading of Christianity through attempting to convert people, but the same is true for atheism and pretty much all other beliefs.
I definitely think it's preferable for someone to be a Christian than say a scientologist. Christianity through conversion keeps a lot of vulnerable people away from crap like scientology and other cults. Now, I'm sure a lot of people would argue that Christianity is a cult, but there is a big difference between going to church on sunday versus killing yourself and your children with poison koolaid because you think an asteroid is going to take you to another world.

I generally agree with you, it gets a bad rap and people are really infatuated with this goofy reductionist imitation of the Enlightenment that's going on.
I know good Christians too, I wasn't being facetious. But some of them are amazingly bad and I feel like they use its power for various types of evil. Puts a body on their toes. I flirted with Christianity for a hot minute but I found its constant cultural association with bigotry and jingoism a big turn-off. It's also frustrating when you so often see Christians publicly and unequivocally embodying behavior Jesus declared hypocritical, in the name of Jesus. It's like, what's the point? Watch too much news and you start to suspect Jesus was some cosmic doctor who came to characterize a specific type of dangerously deficient person (now called "Christians" in his honor) and then to stamp them with a quarantine warning called The Bible.
All of this is not an aspersion against you, of course, as I have no idea what you actually believe. 
That said, I would probably be more open to it if I, say, got married to one of those good ones.

You should believe in the christian god because that's the one and only true god that exists, the rest are false gods. The christians are right because Jesus the one and only son of god came from heaven and let the world know the word of the one true lord our father.
