The following is news release from the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office:
On Sept. 18, at approximately 7:30 a.m., Combined Anti-Drug Task Force (C.A.T. Team) detectives Sgt. Jeff Cole and Cpl. Chris Johnson were working as a two-man unit when they conducted a stop on a car traveling eastbound on I-10 near the Cameron/Creole exit for a traffic violation.
The driver of the car, Virginia K. Bolton, 29, of Houston, and passenger George L. Williams, Jr., 34, of Bay St. Louis, Miss., who were accompanied by a 5-year-old family member, advised detectives they were traveling from Houston to Bay St. Louis, Mississippi.
During the traffic stop, Bolton and Williams began to act suspiciously. After receiving consent from Bolton, detectives conducted a search of the car and discovered a pair of men's athletic shoes in the trunk of the car that smelled of drugs. During further investigation, detectives searched the shoes that William's was wearing and recovered 10 plastic bags containing a total of over ten ounces of cocaine, with an estimated street value of over $20,000, hidden inside the shoes beneath the insoles.
Bolton and Williams were arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and both charged with possession of CDS II (Cocaine 28-200 grams); and cruelty to a juvenile (presence of CDS). Judge David Ritchie set Bolton's bond at $200,000; and set William's bond at $150,000.
The 5-year-old child was placed in the temporary custody of the Louisiana Department of Child and Family Services.
On Sept. 19, at approximately 6:45 a.m., C.A.T. Team Detective Sgt. Stuart Henderson stopped a car on I-10 eastbound between Vinton and Sulphur for a traffic violation.
The driver of the car, Travis J. Milsap, 22, of Laurel, Miss., claimed to be traveling from Houston to Laurel, Mississippi. During the traffic stop, Milsap began to act suspiciously and after receiving consent, Sgt. Henderson conducted a search of the car and recovered two luggage bags in the spare tire compartment of the car's trunk which contained over 18 pounds of marijuana wrapped in cellophane, with an estimated street value of $35,000.
Milsap was arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. Judge David Ritchie set his bond at $150,000.
On Sept. 19, around 8 a.m., C.A.T. Team Detective Cpl. Kevin Hoover conducted a stop on a car traveling eastbound on I-10 near the Louisiana Welcome Center for a traffic violation.
When the driver of the car, Randy Bui, 22, and the passenger and owner of the car, Danny N. Nguyen, 30, both of Houma, began to act suspiciously during the traffic stop, Cpl. Hoover asked for permission to search the car and they refused.
After Cpl. Hoover's K-9 "Mako" alerted to the odor of narcotics coming from the car, a search was conducted and over five pounds of high-grade marijuana, with an estimated street value of $35,000, was recovered from a duffle bag found in the spare tire compartment of the car. Cpl. Hoover also recovered a small ziplock bag containing psilocybin (psychedelic) mushrooms, along with a .45 caliber hand gun, between the passenger seat and the center console of the car.
Bui and Nguyen were arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and both charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute; and possession of CDS I (psilocybin). Nguyen was also charged with illegal carrying of a firearm.
Judge David Ritchie set Bui's bond at $40,000; and set Nguyen's bond at $65,000.
