So my mailman is kind of a fuckface.
Especially for gettin the wife all riled up at me.
I was sleeping and he had her sign for this package. It was tea from peru.
He goes " well it made it thru customs WHATEVER IT IS"
So she says " oh its probably just a plant cutting or something, my husband loves botany"
He says " oh you can't ship plant cuttings...that's illegal"
1st of all, shipping plant cuttings isn't illegal! If its from out of country, you need to pay for a phytosanitary certificate. (Costly)
I AM correct right guys??
So I feel like this guys harrassing us or at the least pissing me off.
Should i:
1) Try talking to him, explaining that it wasn't a cutting and also they're perfectly legal
2) report him to his boss for unprofessional conduct
3) do nothing
4) order heavy items that he'll have to carry just to piss him off

Don't do anything. You could say he's rude, and to that he'd make it known that you have a lot of illegal stuff in your house.

I'd report him. That way he'll be pissed and will cause you no end of trouble.

I think you're right but you may need more paperwork than just phytosanitary, e.g. CITES certificate, import permit. Without all the required paperwork it probably is illegal, but it's definitely not true that plants cant be shipped legally.
I had post office employees tell me it was illegal to ship coins, also not true. They just didn't want to deal with the 60 lb box of coins I was handing them, but I made them look it up and they had to accept it.

I don't mail order illegal items tho. Its fine to ship live plants inside the country right?? I mean...that's how all the shops ship them. No special paperwork.
He's just being a nosy prick.
Maybe I should just talk to him tomorrow & be cool about it?

Within the country there shouldn't be any paperwork needed at all, at least that's how it works here.

Bud if it's not illegal you shouldn't worry about it. If you talk to him, he'll know that your jimmies are rustled for whatever reason and he'll know you're up to something.

Yeah, starting shit over that comment is pointless. It is rude and unprofessional of him to pry about what's in your packages, but it's just not worth the energy to make a stink over one incident. His job is to bring you your stuff, not to investigate what it is and whether you're allowed to have it.

Just do nothing.
If he makes a comment like that again just go silent for a second and say in a stern (but not openly angry or anything) voice "you're fucking rude, aren't you?". Feel free to put that into your own words, but just make it clear to him that it's not his job to play PI, you don't need him judging you, he's just the mail man.

Yea I was leaning towards the do nothing approach but I did want to say
" if mailing plants is illegal then I want documentation as I plan to continue doing so."
All my botanical specimens are legal and in the dining room for anyone to see.
As for the mushrooms in the basement. Well that's a different story.

I used to work at a place that delt with a lot of rough cut green wood. I assembled pallets, skids, and boxes, most were then heat treated after assembly but some left still green. Due to bugs and fungi there were a lot of places they couldn't get wood from, some places don't have a predator for what can come from other places. The biggest problem was getting green lumber shipped from canada to usa due to some beetle that devastated certain local trees. I'd be careful divulging that you are importing exotic plants(or anything for that matter)... even if they make it through customs, maybe time for a PO BOX

As long as you don't order anything illegal you should call the post office or go down there in person and talk to their supervisor and let them know you do not appericate his rude behaviour or snyde comenents and make it clear If it accours again you will not hesitate to contact the post master genral about the insident at hand and the lack of respect given not to mention their failure to impliment warnings for inprofecitional behaviour, also record all convertaions it can potitally help in legal matters as this is a violation of your rights

Yes but think about all the other people who he could be doing the same thing to aswell. Some times you have to make waves, I to hate bring attention to myself in the real world, but ill stand up when something truely isn't right, don't just do it for you do it for the others who are to afraid to do it them selves.
Also think about this the fucker could be going through your packages, it would have been my first thought when he make a remark that it made it through coustomes, implying he has knowlage of what's contained inside of said package and this my friend is a feloney offence.
