Although the headline is a bit misleading, as it said not just cannabis, but "substance abusers."
Well a cheeseburger is a substance, and looking at my gut it could be construed that I'm a cheeseburger abuser.
Possession charges vary in the US by either state, county or municipality - different places have rules that say which law supercedes which. I.E. in my state no municipal or county laws may trump or circumvent state law.
Possession of cannabis in most places is a misdemeanor. Possession of anything else, or distribution/PWID of any substance, including cannabis, is usually a felony.
People convicted of felonies have to petition the federal government to have their "firearms rights restored". This happens exceedingly rarely.
HOWEVER it is illegal for any firearms dealer or seller to sell firearms to ANYONE that they know or believe to be a "drug or substance abuser". In most states you have to sign a paper saying you're "not a user of illicit substances" to even PURCHASE a firearm and the reset timer on this, say if you get convicted of a misdemeanor drug penalty, is usually 5 years or so before you are considered elligible again. The wording is "not a user of substances" but this is not as simple as saying "i don't use drugs" when you have a conviction from a year or two ago.
/It's illegal in this country to own guns if you use drugs the government says you can't. Drugs were originally banned due to economic and political reasons. This is a denial of fundamental rights to individuals based on political advantages gained and political interests that exist.

That depends on the amount and state you are in.
Where I live in Oregon, it would be s slap on the wrist for a small amount(possibly not even a fine for under an 1/8). Some other state though, that is another story.

Sounds like more gun grabbing bollocks imo.
But get this, if you have been drink driving, and you accept counseling rather than jail time, then you're pretty much having to admit you have a problem with alcohol. Substance abuse.
I joked about cheeseburger abuse but the way your government is banning "unhealthy food" left, right and centre (like El Presidente Bloomberg and his kingdom of New York banning normal soft drinks as well as salt?) whilst leaving truely fucky stuff like artificial sweeteners and organ destroying GMO food on sale, I wonder how long someone will say "we need a calorie card. If you are eating more than your carbon allotment of calories then you have a food abuse problem, food is a substance, we're taking your guns."

The federal government's abuse of our civil liberties is getting very disturbing. This is always how shit starts. Limit it slowly. Start with things like the patriot act, then extend it to citizens, oh and along the way limit the populations ability to protect themselves.
