 visions vs visuals

i just finished reading "the teachings of Don Juan" and the visions he described were impressive, and ive never had any "visions," just fractals and patterns and such. But never full on psychedelic hallucinations. How common is this? and is there one substance that prevails over the other in this category? BTW this is disregarding smoked dmt. i am mainly referring to the big three, mushrooms, lsd and mescaline

Most my "visions" were at higher doses, when I was really out there.
I haven't experienced mescaline; I have been more overcome with visions on acid. Mushrooms on the other hand lead to emotional realization.

Apparently at level 5 trips entity contact on par with DMT is common. Honestly I've never really understood/cared much for the level 1/2/3/4/5 tier trip system as it seems largely subjective.
I can say though, I've tripped on shrooms and seen visuals such as patterns during the beginning of the trip, then as the trip gets stronger I will see more intense visuals, like a bookshelf will look like a giant tropical bird with it's head twisted at an angle or something on the floor will look like a giant cheesegrater or something.
Then as I reach the peak of the trip my entire vision will be eclipsed by 'visuals' where the room/place I'm sitting in will be completely be gone and I'll be staring at something huge like a giant entity of somekind. I've not done DMT before but I imagine it is a slightly watered down version of DMT entity contact, it was almost salvia-like (But without the scary, messy confusion...just the strength of the visuals).
This has happened on 1/8 shroom trips for me before, they were very potent though.

damn i've gone up to 5 grams before and the most i got were intense visuals haha i've definitely had visions on dmt before, whole landscapes and such. no entity contact yet though

Even naively reading it the first time, I was pretty suspicious when he talked about smoking mushrooms to get effects.
That said, descriptions of psychedelic experiences are the point of the thread, and one can't doubt that Carlos has experience there.

I've had visions only on trips of 7-8 grams of mushrooms, and it was only twice in my life, but very powerful, and something I'll remember forever.
I believe this happened not only because of the high dose, but also because of my environment and the conversations I had before these what I like to call epiphanies happened.
On another note, I believe Carlos Castaneda definitely has experience with true visions from mushrooms, but they weren't conceived by what he wrote. Just doesn't add up to me.

i was more interested by his peyote visions, the mushroom part didnt make a whole lot of sense to me either, but hey maybe its some super rare extremely potent mushroom that has only been discovered my shamans  who knows haha

Mmm...I would love to try peyote once. Just go to the Southwest and have a true visual quest with a native Shaman. Gotta be an experience of a lifetime!
If he did find a super potent vision inducing mushroom that we don't know about, I feel that he wasn't being a proper hallucinogenic warrior otherwise he would've shared his knowledge. Maybe I'm just jealous lol either way...

anybody ever have visions from LSD at higher doses? in my experience, lsd is so much more beautiful than shrooms, but ive never been as lost on lsd as i have on shrooms?
