13shrooms said: Im with noobie on this BUT OP, your questions show you have done zero reading for yourself at all.
why do I say that?
1, cakes dont go in casings
2, you dont slice them
3, a casing isnt what your saying it is, its a non nutritious layer of peatmoss and verm to help form pins on the substrate (not casing)
4, theres no soil in any indoor grow I know of
5, thers no large pan in a monotub
6, do I need to go on..
now we do spoon feed info (thats what amu does) BUT you have to have a grasp on the very basics of cultivation. start with reading... alot then if you dont want ridicule from the public forums ask away here. http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/14297019#14297019
if you want mushies by doing it yourself from reading a step by step tek then read and memorize this. http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/11916595
there you go, everything you could possible want for a 1st grow in 2 links..
next public post you make you should know the terminology a lil better and all the will stop.

This is why i include your guy's link in the bottom of my signature I'm not part of the group but with all the info on the Q&A its a gold mine.

I wouldn't say that it is, but it's much easier and much more rewarding to leave the cakes as cakes especially when you're starting out. At least it is imho.

nah, you just want to add the crumbled cakes to a substrate (more food) so they have the nutes/energy to colonize AND fruit/flush well.
when you crumble you damage the myc network and it then needs to "heal or knit back together" in order to fruit. its going to need energy for that and thats called a substrate.
coir/verm or manure/verm or straw make good substrates to spawn to (add crumbled cakes to substrate).
but you need a pressure cooker to properly do that.
for my first bulk grow in a monotub I used cakes also.
you colonize your cakes and on the day you want to crumble them you make 2x as much substrate as you have cakes by pasteurizing in a large pot of water like prepping your cakes, coir/verm you can pasteurize in a 5gal bucket via damion5050s elementary coir tek.
once your sub is pasteurized and cooled off you dump it and your crumbled cakes into the montub and mix them very well (make your cake crumbles as small as possible and I mean small) then put the lid on (make sure you can see in without opening to check colonization progress).
wait about 2 weeks and give your tub lots of air and dont let it dry out by misting as needed. mushies will grow

use damion5050s coir tek, its the same thing only substitute his grains (grain spawn) for your crumbled cakes (spawn/live myc).
if you have your cakes ready then all you need to follow is the bucket pasteurization part of his tek and then the colonization - fruiting parts.
there are various ways to accomplish the same goals as long as your sterile work is on point.

Where do you need a PC here? If he's got colonized cakes, then he doesn't really need a PC. A big pot to pasteurize his bulk in, sure. And a PC would work well for that part, since it's a big pot.
I only use my PC for grain, agar, LC and tools.
