Ugly but effective self sealing lids on caning jars.

Curious what others think. After so much trial and error I went for over kill on these. I used the high temp silicone and the tyvek from the free postal delivery. I applied several layers both on the injector ports and around the tyvek itself top and bottom.
So far everything looks pretty clean. I am just doing some starter cultures for now so I can expand the mycelium.
Sorry but my camera on my laptop isn't the best. The liquid culture is almost impossible to photograph but it seems to be taking off with hand shaking several times a day.
The strains came from Mycopath. Golden Oyster and King Oyster. The Goldens are really taking off the Kings not so much but these are fairly new inoculations.

Im sure you know by now that postal Tyvek has pores that get larger when pressurized and they are only good for a few rounds.
Hobby store kite Tyvek will do better for you if you must use Tyvek.
If you make a small dab of silicone on the lid first, let it harden, poke through that and then apply your some to the backside it will help you not have to go with such big gobs.
Most any silicone will handle pc temps. I use elcheapo clear, though I have used the pricier RTV as well. No difference in performance though.
All in all good start and I hope you do a grow log with your edibles.
-------------------- I would like, if I may, to take you on a strange journey.

I didn't know that about the postal tyvek. But just from experience I never reuse any lid. My general rule with sterile tech is if it is less than a buck it gets tossed in the trash after its use.
Guessing the total cost for each lid is like fifty cents so not even worth the trouble to try and save it.
Also I already notice a little bubble on some of the tyvek seals where the CO2 is escaping. Which I guess is good as out is better than in.
It also lets me know that the seal is intact.
Thinking of using two methods to extract cultures. One obviously is inserting a sterile needle with sterile water and extracting the results.
The other is possibly letting some fruits grow in the jars, drop spores and extract that. I got that idea from something I read in one of Stamets books where he talked about a 'spore bomb' I think he called it.
Seems like it would make sense but only if you had a totally pure culture.
