Who's hit rockbottom and changed their life for the better..

Who here has actually done it tough (mentally) and realised they need to change something and stuck to what needed to be done to attain the "peace" in mind?
Reason I ask is because lately I have really gotten into meditating and living in the moment (I'm not claiming to be proficient in either though) and being mindful of my thought process. And I can say, while even though I am still not in the best way I have come further than what I would of imagined two years ago where I would most of my time isolate my self, have panic attacks for no reason and stare blankly at the walls for hours on end in a shitty pointless depression.
I understand the science behind meditation is pretty solid in that it will have a positive impact on your life but I just find the cause and effect of it nice, it's not something you can find in other things that offer instant gratification, those things are usually draining on the psyche.
Who'd of thought sitting for twenty minutes two times a day focussing on counting the breathe in one and out two and repeat would be so rewarding!?

well technically you are an amateur at suicide. why risk botching it when there is a whole wide world of random death for you?

Zen teachers are just douchebags who like to hit people with a stick...
Meditation is supposed to lead to awareness and attention to details not to sloppiness, is it not?
Is the arrangement of words less important than the arrangement of flowers (as in zen gardening) or any other activity?
Should we pay attention when sitting with eyes closed and then let our mind wander willy-nilly the rest of the time? Is that what you are advocating?

I have. It took many years, many ups, downs, failures, etc.... I got up only to fall deeper.....then picked myself up again, only to fall deeper, so on & so forth. I finally reached a point where enough was enough. What exactly happened/changed, I can't say; I'm not really sure. I do know that I had hit that point though. After that it was a long hard stuggle, but I had a lot of support, a lot of determination, and the belief that someday things may get better. Lo and behold, things did get better, and continue to do so.

I think that's great. I say keep at it and ignore all nay sayers. Getting over panic attacks is no small achievement and I'm happy for you. Suffering sucks.

That is a statement and not a question.
Since when does a simple and properly-phrased sentence require interpretation?

I had no problem understanding the OP either. The message he was attempting to get across got across and it was pretty cool imo.

good on ya man
there is that weird self destructive logic 'i need to get to the bottom to come out on top'
i mean sometimes life does seem like a losing battle and you just wanna lose. but imo life is always a battle and no matter how profound the rock bottom religious experience may be it doesnt change that. the shit you see now is the shit you always have to deal with and not to detract from those who have been 'down there' but people who stop the downward spiral before it gets out of control are sometimes as much (if not more) admirable.
